IVFD Effect of the sexual abstinence period recommended by the World Health Organization on clinical outcomes of fresh embryo transfer cycles with normal o
In conclusion, SAP (sexual abstinence period) beyond the recommended period by WHO was not associated with the rates of a lower fertilisation and pregnancy in human in vitro fertilisation (IVF). We think that a new criterion of SAP for clinical application in human IVF needs to be considered by WHO.

IVFD Impact of a mild scrotal heating on sperm chromosomal abnormality, acrosin activity and seminal alpha-glucosidase in human fertile males
Sperm parameters, sperm DNA integrity, chromosomes, AA and NAG are affected by scrotal exposure to constant SH temperatures several degrees over normal physiological temperature, and after treatment, these parameters were reversibly restored to the level before SH in adult men.

IVFD Relationships between bacteriospermia, DNA integrity, nuclear protamine alteration, sperm quality and ICSI outcome
Bacteriospermia had a significant (p :< :.010) negative effect on sperm parameters: concentration, motility, progressive motility and chromatin condensation. Moreover, high DNA fragmentation with low P1 and P2 concentrations were noticed in infected patients in comparison to non-infected patients but non-significant

IVFD Using late son`s preserved semen, couplegets twin grandkids through IVF, surrogacy
The parents of a 27-year-old man, who died of brain tumour two years ago, used their unmarried son’s cryopreserved semen extracted long before his death to have grandchildren.Fusing the semen with eggs of a matching donor, doctors created embryos and transferred them into a surrogate mother’s womb.

IVFD SAFE Sens Continuous and Non-Invasive pH monitoring
This month I would like to highlight some of the critical ways pH stability affects a wide scope in cell culture. If your lab falls under any of these categories, pH monitoring can benefit your lab to confirm, change, or improve your current practices.

Title
Can one combine post death sperm utilization and surrogacy
Summary
A case report describes a situation whereby the mother of a deceased male has gained permission to use the sperm in a surrogacy arrangement to produce a grandchild from the sons sperm.
Comment
This news story caught the eye of IVFDaily whereby a women, whose son had sperm cryopreserved prior to his death from a brain tumour, obtained permsission to access the sons frozen sperm and via ICSI and a surrogate egg donor was able to generate a child. In effect the child is the woman's grandchild. This case is a variation of the use of frozen sperm from a deceased male whereby the child(ren) that arose from its use was commission by the mother to procure for her a grandchild. The child will therefore be born without a mother or father but grandparents.// One can easily recognise the implication that a couple have a right to access IVF technology not to make children but grandchildren. While this is a once off situation, one has the sense that there may be other similar cases and clinics offering surrogacy arrangements may benefit in developing a set of rules to assist or hinder future requests. Also, clinics that freeze sperm of cancer patients may need to consider the declaration he needs to give for such use before he produces his samples.// Life just keeps on getting harder//

Title
Does sexual abstinence effect IVF(ICSI) outcomes.
Summary
The short answer is no.
Comment
A small retrospective study from a South Korean clinic that compared the clinical outcome of using spermatozoa via ICSI from semen samples of less than or more than 8 days. Both fresh and 'aged' samples produced the same pregnancy rate after swim-up preparation (an older method for recovering motile sperm).// Most would not be surprised by this observation however IVFDaily included this article in a mailout because it reflects the difference between the WHO standard for semen analysis that is largely based on coital fertility (natural pregnancy) rather than clinical fertility (at a clinic). When a couple attend for fertility treatment, in most cases, one or more semen analyses are performed and based upon this, a clinical recommendation is made as to whether IVF (& ICSI) may provide a better chance of pregnancy than currently experienced.// The issue arises as in this case as to whether a sample may be accepted for IVF (& ICSI) based upon the coital based normal ranges. As this article demonstrates that rejecting a sample because of atypically long abstinence is of little value since even in an 'aged' sample, normal fertile sperm can be recovered to achieve fertilisation and pregnancy. In some ways it questions the value of applying the WHO normal ranges when applied to predicting the fertility of a sample used in IVF/ICSI.// Having said this, there have been observations that if the sample demonstrated high levels of sperm DNA damage, repeated ejaculations can significantly improve the DNA integrity of the sample and since high DNA fragmentation may impact on miscarriage rates, a clinic who accepts an 'aged' sample from a client with high DNA fragmentation may not be a good idea, particularly if the client falls pregnant and miscarries!.//
