IVFD Sperm mitochondrial DNA measures and semen parameters among men undergoing fertility treatment
Results: Adjusting for relevant covariates, both sperm mtDNAcn and mtDNAdel were associated with lower sperm concentration, count, motility and morphology (P ≤:: 0.03). Sperm mtDNAcn and mtDNAdel were also associated with increased risks of clinical infertility based on current and consecutive semen samples. Sperm mtDNAcn had high predictive accuracy for consecutive diagnoses of clinical infertility (C-statistic: 0.91), whereas sperm mtDNAde

IVFD Pregnancy rates after pre-implantation genetic screening for aneuploidy are only superior when trophectoderm biopsy is performed on hatching embryos
Conclusions: PGS-CCS significantly increases implantation and live birth rates only if embryos are hatching at the time of biopsy. The embryo biopsy itself on a non-hatching embryo significantly damages the embryo in ways which are not reflected in future embryo expansion. IVF labs should wait until embryos hatch before performing trophectoderm biopsy.

IVFD The timing of cumulus cell removal for intracytoplasmic sperm injection influences the capability of embryonic development
Results:There were no significant differences in maturation, fertilization, blastocyst, pregnancy, live birth, or miscarriage rates between Groups A and B. However, the percentage of good quality blastocysts was significantly higher in Group B than Group A (52.0% vs 33.1%). Intact cumulus cells should be maintained during the preincubation period, as they are important to embryonic development after fertilization.

IVFD “Bisphenol a: an emerging threat to male fertility”
Conclusion: A clear understanding of BPA action mechanisms, as well as the presumed risks deriving from its exposure, is becoming crucial to preserve male fertility. The development and validation of methodologies to detect BPA toxic effects on reproductive organs can provide greater awareness of the potential threat that this chemical represents.

IVFD 'Snake oil': the popular IVF therapy that has just been proven useless
A common IVF treatment marketed as a fertility booster and costing hundreds of dollars is useless and clinics should stop offering it, experts say. The procedure known as 'endometrial scratching' does not offer women a better chance of taking home a baby after IVF, found the largest and most comprehensive trial of the treatment.

Title
Reducing time to pregnancy and facilitating the birth of healthy children through functional analysis of embryo physiology
Summary
Here we propose the term healthy embryo to reflect the capacity of that embryo to lead to a healthy child and adult.

Ferrick L, Lee YSL, Gardner DK. (2019) Reducing time to pregnancy and facilitating the birth of healthy children through functional analysis of embryo physiology. Biol Reprod. 2019 Jan 16. doi: 10.1093/biolre/ioz005.| ABSTRACT.| An ever-increasing number of couples rely on assisted reproductive technologies (ART) in order to conceive a child. Although advances in embryo culture have led to increases in the success rates of clinical ART, it often takes more than one treatment cycle to conceive a child. Ensuring patients conceive as soon as possible with a healthy embryo is a priority for reproductive medicine. Currently, selection of embryos for transfer relies predominantly on the morphological assessment of the preimplantation embryo, however, morphology is not an absolute link to embryo physiology, nor the health of the resulting child. Non-invasive quantitation of individual embryo physiology, a key regulator of both embryo viability and health, could provide valuable information to assist in the selection of the most viable embryo for transfer, hence reducing the time to pregnancy. Further, according to the Barker Hypothesis, the environment to which a fetus is exposed to during gestation affects subsequent offspring health. If the environment of the preimplantation period is capable of affecting metabolism, which in turn will affect gene expression through the metaboloepigenetic link, then assessment of embryo metabolism should represent an indirect measure of future offspring health. Previously the term viable embryo has been used in association with the potential of an embryo to establish a pregnancy. Here we propose the term healthy embryo to reflect the capacity of that embryo to lead to a healthy child and adult.
