We reconfirmed the association between ART and imprinting disorders. In addition, we found unique methylation patterns in ART-SRS patients, therefore, concluded that the imprinting disorders related to ART might tend to take place just after fertilization at a time when the epigenome is most vulnerable and might be affected by the techniques of manipulation used for IVF or ICSI and the culture medium of the fertilized egg.
Outcomes of preterm infants conceived with in vitro fertilization
Conclusions: In this large cohort of IVF-conceived preterm infants we found similar outcomes to controls with the exception of bronchopulmonary dysplasia and respiratory medication exposure. Further research is needed to explore the influence of in vitro fertilization on the development of neonatal respiratory disease.
The psychosocial health of children born after medically assisted reproduction: Evidence from the UK Millennium Cohort Study
MAR children experience lower levels of psychosocial problems than NC children at all ages from 3 to 14. The selective characteristics of MAR parents explain the observed difference. Net of parental characteristics, young MAR children have higher levels of psychosocial problems, but the gap decrease and eventually converges by age 14.
Risk of cancer in children and young adults conceived by assisted reproductive technology
Risk of cancer in children and young adults conceived by as
Overall, ART-conceived children do not appear to have an increased cancer risk after a median follow-up of 21 years. This large study provides important results, enabling physicians to better inform couples considering ART about the long-term safety of ART for their children. However, larger studies with prolonged follow-up are needed to investigate cancer risk in adults and in children conceived by ICSI and/or from cryopreserved embryos.
High-risk human papillomavirus in semen is associated with poor sperm progressive motility and a high sperm DNA fragmentation index in infertile men
Sperm progressive motility was significantly lower (P = 0.01) while SDF values were higher (P = 0.005) in HPV+ men compared to those with no HPV. In particular, HR HPV+ men had lower sperm progressive motility (P = 0.007) and higher SDF values (P = 0.003) than those with a negative HPV test. Univariable analysis showed that HR HPV+ was associated with impaired sperm progressive motility (P = 0.002) and SDF values (P = 0.003).
Decreased ovarian reserve relates to pre-eclampsia in IVF/ICSI pregnancies
CONCLUSION: Diminished responsiveness of the ovaries to FSH stimulation in an IVF cycle, reflecting decreased ovarian reserve, is associated with an increased risk of developing pre-eclampsia in a subsequent pregnancy.
Metabolic imaging via fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy for egg and embryo assessment
Recent studies demonstrate that fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy can detect oocyte and embryo metabolic function and dysfunction in a multitude of experimental models and provide encouraging evidence for use in scientific investigation and possibly for clinical application. One hundred mosaic embryos transferred prospectively in a single clinic: exploring when and why they result in healthy pregnancies
Conclusion(s): After euploid embryos, mosaic embryos can be considered for transfer, prioritizing those of the single segmental mosaic type. If a patient has mosaic embryos available that were generated at different ages, preference should be given to those made at younger ages. Intrablastocyst karyotype discordance and differential cell proliferation and death might be reasons that embryos classified as mosaic can result in healthy pregnancies a
Mosaic embryos present a challenging clinical decision
Until long-term clinical outcomes of children conceived as a result of MET are known, priority should be placed on transfer of euploid embryos when available. In situations where mosaic embryos are to be transferred, patients should be counselled on the clear diminution in pregnancy outcomes, including lower implantation rate, and potentially higher risk of pregnancy loss, including the risk of ongoing aneuploid gestation, with a strong recommend
LuminOva: illuminating fertility [This link may be from a sponsor]
We started LuminOva because we believe that better understanding the mitochondrial activity of eggs and embryos will help clinicians and patients to make better decisions. We are bringing scientific expertise and entrepreneurial experience together to drive the next stage of innovation in assisted reproductive technologies.
