AT_EmbDay4_01 - Day 4 Compacting Embryos
4/18/80/969
Previous Help Item
Next HelpItem
Description
Day 4 compacting human embryo.
Comment
While many programmes transfer embryos on day 2 or day 3, increasingly IVF programmes are continuing to culture embryos to day 5 or 6. On day 4, about 90-96 hours post fertilisation, the embryo should have completed compaction. Compaction is the process whereby interaction between the blastomeres is elevated with many gap junctions forming a sealed environment. The cell definition is lost and the shape appears globular and indistinct.
