Caesarean Section Delivery May Double Risk of Childhood Obesity: May Be Due to Different Gut Bacteria
Caesarean section delivery may double the risk of subsequent childhood obesity, finds research published online in the Archives of Disease in Childhood.~It may be that gut bacteria influence the development of obesity by increasing energy extracted from the diet, and by stimulating cells to boost insulin resistance, inflammation, and fat deposits, say the authors.

Effect of hCG priming on embryonic development of immature oocytes collected from unstimulated women with polycystic ovarian syndrome
While a significant improvement in the nuclear maturation rate of immature oocytes was observed in hCG-primed IVM cycles with PCOS patients, the use of hCG prior to oocyte retrieval did not improve the subsequent embryo developmental competence. The high rate of pregnancy loss in IVM cycles should receive more attention.
GnRH agonist versus GnRH antagonist in assisted reproduction cycles: oocyte morphology
Our randomized data indicate that in terms of the quality of oocyte morphology, there is no difference between the antagonist multi-dose protocol and the long-term agonist protocol. If a GnRH analogue used for pituitary suppression in IVF cycles influences the prevalence of oocyte dysmorphisms, there does not appear to be a difference between the use of an agonist as opposed to an antagonist
Excessive gestational weight gain predicts large for gestational age neonates independent of maternal body mass index.
Pregravid overweight or obesity and gaining in excess of the IOM 2009 GWG guidelines strongly increase a woman's chance of having a larger baby. Lifestyle interventions that aim to optimize GWG by incorporating healthy eating and exercise strategies during pregnancy should be investigated to determine their effects on LGA neonates and down-stream child obesity.
IUDs, Implants Most Effective Birth Control, Study Suggests
A study to evaluate birth control methods has found dramatic differences in their effectiveness. Women who used birth control pills, the patch or vaginal ring were 20 times more likely to have an unintended pregnancy than those who used longer-acting forms such as an intrauterine device (IUD) or implant.
Australian and New Zealand pregnant women who weigh more than 140kg are at greater risk of complications including gestational diabetes and caesarean section deliveries, new figures show. Almost 750 pregnant women in Australia and New Zealand are extremely morbidly obese, according to fresh data from the Australasian Maternity Outcomes Surveillance System (AMOSS).
The NY Times recently published an article titled: "So Eager for Grandchildren, They’re Paying the Egg-Freezing Clinic," describing a recent phenomenon, where women, mostly above the age of 35, freeze eggs, hoping to use them to conceive in the future. Entourages of women and their parents show up at clinics, with the hope of stopping the biological clocks of yet unwed daughters. Yet to what degree are these hopes justified?
MEN trying to conceive should keep heat sources, especially laptops away from their genitals, experts warn. Fertility SA clinician Dr Alex Hubczenko said most men were unaware heat from laptops was a potential risk for male fertility.
