Comment:Mixed list including to articles on drugs to reduce uterine contraction prior to ET [the data on uterine contractions remain strong on it influence on pregnancy rates], value of hysteroscopy [something that may happen but appear invisible to IVF data collection], diabetic influence on sperm apoptosis [should we ask the question prior to each analysis?] and a new IVFCPD WHO5 module on sample collection (its free!).

Atosiban improves implantation and pregnancy rates in patients with repeated implantation failure
This prospective cohort study examined the effects of atosiban on uterine contraction, implantation rate (IR) and clinical pregnancy rate (CPR) in women undergoing IVF/embryo transfer. This is the first prospective study showing that atosiban may benefit subjects with RIF undergoing IVF/embryo transfer with cryopreserved embryos. One potential mechanism is the reduction in uterine contractility, but others may also contribute.
The results show that ejaculates of diabetic men contain significantly (P<0.05) higher concentrations of spermatozoa with disrupted transmembrane mitochondrial potential, activated caspase 3, reactive oxygen species and fragmented DNA when compared with healthy fertile donors. The effect is more pronounced in men with diabetes type II. All measured parameters were inversely correlated with the sperm fertilizing potential, indicating a possible me
Adenomyosis reduces pregnancy rates in infertile women undergoing IVF
The clinical pregnancy rate (22.2% versus 47.2%) and ongoing pregnancy rate (11.1% versus 45.9%) were significantly lower in women with adenomyosis and the miscarriage rate (50.0% versus 2.8%) was significantly higher in women with adenomyosis (all P<0.001). Ultrasound evidence of adenomyosis is found in a significant number of women presenting with infertility and has a negative impact on the outcome of IVF/ICSI.
Planar embryos have poor prognosis in terms of blastocyst formation and implantation
There was a significant increase in implantation rate if tetrahedral embryos could be transferred compared with when planar embryos had to be transferred (P<0.01). It may be postulated that, in planar embryos, the mitotic spindle might have been affected, e.g. sperm centrosome composition or function, which in turn might have led to the observed cleavage anomaly.
Office hysteroscopy improves pregnancy rates following IVF
OH may improve pregnancy rates, but timing of the procedure is important. The endometrial effect is highest when hysteroscopy is performed 50days or less before embryo transfer.
ART culture conditions change the probability of mouse embryo gestation through defined cellular and molecular responses
Our data promote awareness that human ART culture media affect embryo development. Effects reported here in the mouse may apply also in human, because no ART medium presently available on the market has been optimized for human embryo development. The mouse embryo assay (MEA), which requires ART media to support at least 80% blastocyst formation, is in need of reform and should be extended to include post-implantation development.
Birth outcomes after induced abortion: a nationwide register-based study of first births in Finland
In terms of public health and practical implications, health education should contain information of the potential health hazards of repeat IAs, including very preterm birth and low birthweight in subsequent pregnancies. Health care professionals should be informed about the potential risks of repeat IAs on infant outcomes in subsequent pregnancy.
Sperm and oocyte cryopreservation: comprehensive consent and the protection of patient autonomy
Sperm cryopreservation and increasingly oocyte cryopreservation are common forms of fertility preservation for oncology patients facing gonadotoxic therapy. Both procedures present challenging ethical issues with regard to informed consent, given that the context for these procedures is a disease that carries a significant risk of mortality. We argue that the current consent process does not allow for adequate collection of information about a pa
Sperm Cells Induce Distinct Cytokine Response in Peripheral Mononuclear Cells from Infertile Women with Serum Anti-Sperm Antibodies
Cellular immune responses to sperm antigens, measured by production of cytokines, differ among infertile women with ASA, infertile women without ASA and healthy women. This difference could play an important role in the initial steps of the infertility pathogenesis.
Altered gene expression profile in cumulus cells of mature MII oocytes from patients with polycystic ovary syndrome
Functional annotation of the differentially expressed genes suggests that defects in the transforming growth factor β: and estrogen receptors signalling cascades may contribute to the reduced oocyte developmental competence in patients with PCOS.
Men Should Shed Excess Weight Before Fathering Children, Study Suggests
Reproductive experts from the University of Melbourne's Department of Zoology have discovered that a father's obesity negatively impacts sperm, resulting in smaller fetuses, poor pregnancy success and reduced placental development.
Early Menopause: A Genetic Mouse Model of Human Primary Ovarian Insufficiency
Scientists have established a genetic mouse model for primary ovarian insufficiency (POI), a human condition in which women experience irregular menstrual cycles and reduced fertility, and early exposure to estrogen deficiency.
Increased Risk of Prematurity and Low Birth Weight in Babies Born After Three or More Abortions
One of the largest studies to look at the effect of induced abortions on a subsequent first birth has found that women who have had three or more abortions have a higher risk of some adverse birth outcomes, such as delivering a baby prematurely and with a low birth weight.

Survey:Blastocyst Vitrification [This link may be from a sponsor]
Comment:Many clinics routinely vitrify blastocysts but there is little information on how often the cavity is collapsed before vitrification and hatched after warming. This quick survey seeks to find out how common these techniques are.
CDP011-Osmolality of culture media [This link may be from a sponsor]
Osmolality is a measure of the pressure exerted by dissolved substances in a solution. Cells in solutions like the fluid of their in vivo environment or in culture media are subject to osmotic pressure. Cells, including embryos, control their sizes by adjusting their intracellular osmotic pressure. This module describes the importance of osmolality and cell volume regulation in embryo culture and viability. On completion, there should be an appre
City Fertility - Experienced embryologist/Andrology Scientist position [Australia].
A full-time/part-time position is available at our Brisbane clinic for an experiences clinical embryologists to be part of expanding IVF/Fertility practice.
An exciting opportunity has become available for an embryologist to be a part of a dynamic clinic that provides treatment of international standards and excellence within a personal and supportive environment.
First in a series of CPD Modules on competency of applying the WHO5 Manual on Semen Analysis. For completion by staff to verify knowledge on WHO5 rules on Sample Collection.
ART culture conditions change the probability of mouse embryo gestation through defined cellular and molecular responses
The cover of Human Reproduction shows the immunoconfocal determination of mouse blastocyst trophectoderm (TE) and inner cell mass (ICM: divided into primitive endoderm (pEnd) and primitive ectoderm (pEct)) following differing culture conditions.
