Dairy intake and semen quality among men attending a fertility clinic
Conclusion(s):Our findings suggest that low-fat dairy intake, particularly low-fat milk, is related to higher sperm concentration and progressive motility, whereas cheese intake is related to lower sperm concentration among past or current smokers [ed- something to suggest to men with poor semen quality!]
A novel “delayed start” protocol with gonadotropin-releasing hormone antagonist improves outcomes in poor responders
Conclusion(s) The delayed-start protocol improves ovarian response in poor responders by promoting and synchronizing follicle development without impairing oocyte developmental competence.
A systematic review of psychosocial factors associated with emotional adjustment in in vitro fertilization patients
Neuroticism and the use of escapist coping strategies were positively associated with distress by multiple studies. Social support was negatively associated with distress by several studies. A number of other psychosocial variables appear to be associated with distress, including self-criticism, dependency, situation appraisals and attachment style, but these have only been explored by one or two studies at most.
The origin, mechanisms, incidence and clinical consequences of chromosomal mosaicism in humans
The clinical consequences of mosaicism depend on which chromosome is involved, and when and where an error occurs. Mitotic rescue of a meiotic error or a very early mitotic error will typically lead to general mosaicism while a mitotic error at a specific cell lineage point typically leads to confined mosaicism. The clinical consequences of mosaicism are dependent on numerous aspects, with the consequences being unique for each event.
Endometrial thickness and pregnancy rates after IVF: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Current data indicate that EMT has a limited capacity to identify women who have a low chance to conceive after IVF. The frequently reported cut-off of 7 mm is related to a lower chance of pregnancy, but occurs infrequently. The use of EMT as a tool to decide on cycle cancellation, freezing of all embryos or refraining from further IVF treatment seems not to be justified based on the current meta-analysis. Further research is needed to investigat
What's the message? A content analysis of newspaper articles about assisted reproductive technology from 2005 to 2011.
Risks (63%) and ethical issues (61%) related to ART were most commonly featured. Quebec-based articles were mostly concerned with the politics and financial issues governing ART, and were less likely to report the risks and emotional impact of ART than other North American press. Newspapers tended to emphasize extreme scenarios as well as controversial cases that may not represent the everyday realities of ART. Changes in public policy may also e
Associations between insulin resistance, free fatty acids, and oocyte quality in polycystic ovary syndrome during in vitro fertilization
Our findings clearly demonstrated that PCOS is associated with significantly higher FAI and IR levels and decreased plasma SHBG levels, independent of BMI. Obese PCOS patients had higher palmitoleic acid and oleic acid levels in both the plasma and follicular fluid than did the control subject and nonobese PCOS patients. Our results indicated that developmental competence is associated with oleic and stearic acid concentrations, which may contrib

hCG luteal rescue should be offered 3 days after oocytes retrieval only to those patients with no signs of early moderate OHSS. Further studies are required to elucidate the appropriate regimen of luteal HCG administration in patients undergoing final follicular maturation with GnRH-agonist
Assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatment in women with schizophrenia or related psychotic disorder: a national cohort study
The prevalence of women with a psychotic diagnosis in fertility treatment is lower than the prevalence in the general population. Women with a psychotic disorder prior to ART treatment have a lower fertility treatment success rate compared to women without psychotic disorder. Women with a psychotic disorder achieving delivery show similar obstetric outcomes to women with no psychotic disorder.
Is the modified natural in vitro fertilization cycle justified in patients with “genuine” poor response to controlled ovarian hyperstimulation?
Conclusion(s).Modified natural cycle-IVF is of no benefit for genuine poor ovarian responders and the option of egg donation should be seriously considered for this population.
Sperm deoxyribonucleic acid damage in normozoospermic men is related to age and sperm progressive motility
In this large cohort of normozoospermic men presenting for infertility evaluation, DNA fragmentation level is related to sperm motility and paternal age, and 11% of these men have high levels of sperm DNA fragmentation. Furthermore, the data indicate that a nonnegligible proportion (5%) of normozoospermic men with high-normal sperm parameters may also have significant sperm DNA fragmentation.
A comparison of the miscarriage rate between women with and without polycystic ovarian syndrome undergoing IVF treatment
PCOS patients who conceived following IVF treatment had higher biochemical loss than women without PCOS, but the clinical miscarriage rate was no different between the two groups.
There was a subtle relationship between the sex of the first and subsequent births and secondary recurrent miscarriage, but not primary recurrent miscarriage.
