Comment:Your clinic is invited to subscribe to($AUD250) and enrol your embryology staff in the EQA scheme Embryo Ranking (HER) that tests their embryo grading competency to rank 3-9 embryos from good to poor. FertAid now has added a challenge to see who can rank embryos closest to the average ranking over 2014. Contact office@fertaid.com for more Info. Also caught my eye was an interesting report of PET `personalized` embryo transfer.

Juno is the egg Izumo receptor and is essential for mammalian fertilization
Fertilization occurs when sperm and egg recognize each other and fuse to form a new, genetically distinct organism. The molecular basis of sperm–egg recognition is unknown, but is likely to require interactions between receptor proteins displayed on their surface. Izumo1 is an essential sperm cell-surface protein, but its receptor on the egg has not been described. Here we identify folate receptor 4 (Folr4) as the receptor for Izumo1 on the mouse
A maternal gluten-free diet reduces inflammation and diabetes incidence in the offspring of NOD mice
In conclusion, GF diet during fetal and early postnatal life reduces development of diabetes. The mechanism may involve a changed gut microbiota and shifts to a less proinflammatory immunological milieu in the gut and pancreas.[ed: Do IVF clinics have a duty to assist clients to have a healthy child? - one article to link pregnancy diet to offspring health]
Effect of Sperm DNA Fragmentation on Clinical Outcome of Frozen-Thawed Embryo Transfer and on Blastocyst Formation
A total of 1082 FET cycles with cleavage stage embryos (C-FET) (855 from IVF and 227 from ICSI) and 653 frozen-thawed blastocyst transfer cycles (B-FET) (525 from IVF and 128 from ICSI) were included. There was no significant change in clinical pregnancy, biochemical pregnancy and miscarriage rates in the group with a SDF >30% compared with the group with a SDF ≤:30% in IVF and ICSI cycles with C-FET or B-FET. Also, there was no significant
Cumulative Delivery Rate after Providing Full Reimbursement In Vitro Fertilization Programme: A 6-Years Survey
These results enable us to report that prospects of the treatment for the women aged <38 years, if they undergo all 6 available IVF cycles, are very positive and quite comparable to the chances of spontaneous conception. Even in older patients it is beneficial to repeat the IVF procedures. Therefore we consider the existing infertility treatment system in Slovenia as an example of good medical practice with high level of beneficence offered to th
What a difference two days make: “personalized” embryo transfer (pET) paradigm: A case report and pilot study
Here, we report a clinical case of successful personalized embryo transfer (pET) after four IVF and three oocyte donation failed attempts in which different embryo transfer strategies were attempted. This case report is complemented by a pilot study of 17 patients undergoing oocyte donation and who suffered failed implantations with routine embryo transfer (ET) but were then treated with pET after the personalized diagnosis of their WOI.
The endometrial receptivity array for diagnosis and personalized embryo transfer as a treatment for patients with repeated implantation failure
Conclusion(s): There is an increased percentage of WOI displacement in RIF patients compared with comparison group patients, leading to the concept of pET as a therapeutic strategy. Rescue of NR patients by pET in a displaced WOI results in similar PR and IR.
Worldwide survey of IVF practices: trigger, retrieval and embryo transfer techniques
Surveys were completed from 359 centers in 71 countries throughout the world. The most common practice patterns (defined as ≥:75 % of IVF cycles) identified included: use of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) for trigger with an antagonist protocol, no routine patient monitoring from hCG trigger to oocyte retrieval, timing oocyte retrieval 34–37 h following oocyte maturing trigger, use of a single lumen retrieval needle, no routine tests fol
Recurrent miscarriage: do professionals adhere to their guidelines
MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE Homocysteine and antiphospholipid antibodies were determined in 39 and 47%, respectively. Thrombophilia screening (54%) and karyotyping (50%) were offered to women regardless of their underlying risk for inherited thrombophilia or chromosome abnormalities. Higher maternal age at the time of presentation and a lower number of preceding miscarriages were improperly used to decide on diagnostic tests and were both
Long-term follow up of couples initially randomized between immobilization and immediate mobilization subsequent to IUI
The primary outcome was an ongoing pregnancy during the 3years after the initial trial. In this time period, there were 143 ongoing pregnancies in the immobilization group (n=199 couples) and 112 ongoing pregnancies in the immediate mobilization group (n=192). The ongoing pregnancy rates were 72% and 58%, respectively (relative risk 1.2, 95% CI 1.1–1.4). The persistent significant difference in ongoing pregnancy rates underpins the importance of
Evidence-based research and practice: attitudes of reproduction nurses, counsellors and doctors
. Ninety-six health professionals consented to participate and completed the questionnaire. The majority acknowledged the importance of research in informing practice and improving patient outcomes. While many clinicians expressed an interest in participating in research, time and resources were acknowledged as barriers that hindered their involvement. Collaborations with academics may offer a pathway to building the evidence to improve patient c
From liability to viability: Genes on the Y chromosome prove essential for male survival
The human Y chromosome has, over the course of millions of years of evolution, preserved a small set of genes that has ensured not only its own survival but also the survival of men. Moreover, the vast majority of these tenacious genes appear to have little if any role in sex determination or sperm production. Taken together, these remarkable findings suggest that because these Y-linked genes are active across the body, they may actually be contr
Child's autism risk accelerates with mother's age over 30
Older parents are more likely to have a child who develops an autism spectrum disorder than are younger parents. A recent study provides more insight into how the risk associated with parental age varies between mothers' and fathers' ages, and found that the risk of having a child with both autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disability is larger for older parents.

Multiple births don't have to be an inevitable result of fertility treatments
While fertility treatments have helped many people become parents, they commonly result in multiple births, increasing the risk of prematurity, and leading to lifelong complications. But this doesn't have to be the case, according researchers, who recommend sweeping changes to policy and clinical practice.

CELL-TEK microscope chambers [This link may be from a sponsor]
The Cell-Tek Microscope Chamber allows embryologists to observe, record and work in a safe controlled environment for oocytes and embryos. It also allows visualisation of the important developmental stages whilst maintaining media pH, temperature and humidity. This work can be performed comfortably and stress free, allowing for a more accurate and reliable assessment of gamete or embryo quality.
