Distribution: 5681-5700 Posted 5/5/2014 Embryo Ranking Challenge-Invitation
Comment:A good article from Monash describing the incidence of natural conceptions after FET-SET about 20%. Are we overestimating our productivity? Other articles of interest (to me) include differences in stem cells from infertile males, Hep B effects, timing of hCG and semen proteomics. Plus gender testing in Malta and problematic paternity case (if true). Encourage all clinics to complete the 2014 Laboratory census. Survey-2014 Laboratory Census

IVFD High-throughput sperm differential proteomics suggests that epigenetic alterations contribute to failed assisted reproduction
By using TMT labelling and LC-MS/MS, we have detected 31 proteins present at lower abundance (ratio no pregnancy/pregnancy < 0.67) and 35 at higher abundance (ratio no pregnancy/pregnancy > 1.5) in the no pregnancy group. Bioinformatic analyses showed that the proteins with differing abundance are involved in chromatin assembly and lipoprotein metabolism (P values < 0.05).

Purpose:To compare single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and comparative genomic hybridization (aCGH) microarray platforms to evaluate embryos for parental translocation imbalances and aneuploidy./Conclusions: SNP or aCGH microarray technologies demonstrate equivalent clinical findings that maximize the pregnancy potential in patients with known parental reciprocal chromosomal translocations.

IVFD Protein phospholipase C Zeta1 expression in patients with failed ICSI but with normal sperm parameters
Conclusion: Our data suggest that in patients with normal SA parameters but with repeated low fertilization or outright failed fertilization results after ICSI, abnormal PLCZ1 function should be considered as the underlying mechanism responsible for the failure of fertilization.

IVFD New Advances of Preimplantation and Prenatal Genetic Screening and Noninvasive Testing as a Potential Predictor of Health Status of Babies
Therefore the aim of this review is to summarize not only the new knowledge on preimplantation and prenatal genetic diagnosis in humans, but also on the development of potential noninvasive embryo and fetal testing that might play an important role in the future.

IVFD Individualized embryo transfer training: timing and performance
Personalized embryo transfer training is feasible and useful, allowing clinics, on one hand, to offer a maximum chances of pregnancy with fully trained personnel, and the other hand, to avoid the superfluous and costly overtraining of already proficient trainees. Furthermore, it is advisable to maintain a short interval of time between consecutive embryo transfer sessions after a trainee has acquired competence, to avoid a significant drop in the

IVFD Semen analysis and prediction of natural conception
Performing more than one semen analysis will not increase the prognostic power of the test in clinical practice. Adding the first semen analysis to the Hunault model for the prediction of natural conception improved performance significantly compared with using the Hunault model alone. External validation, in other populations, should follow to confirm our conclusions, and to evaluate the generalizability or transportability of the extended Huna

IVFD Fate of iPSCs Derived from Azoospermic and Fertile Men following Xenotransplantation to Murine Seminiferous Tubules
Here, induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) lines were derived from infertile men with deletions that encompass three Y chromosome azoospermia factor (AZF) regions and are associated with production of few or no sperm but normal somatic development. AZF-deleted iPSC lines were compromised in germ cell development in vitro. Undifferentiated iPSCs transplanted directly into murine seminiferous tubules differentiated extensively to germ-cell-like ce

IVFD Comparative Genomic Hybridization Selection of Blastocysts for Repeated Implantation Failure Treatment: A Pilot Study
The aim of this study is to determine if the use of preimplantation genetic screening (PGS) by array comparative genomic hybridization (array CGH) and transfer of a single euploid blastocyst in patients with repeated implantation failure (RIF) can improve clinical results.- In conclusion, PGS by array CGH with single euploid blastocyst transfer appears to be a successful strategy for patients with multiple failed IVF attempts.

IVFD Variability in the components of high-density lipoprotein particles measured in human ovarian follicular fluid: a cross-sectional analysis
Conclusion(s): Substantial variability in FF HDL components exist between follicles among women undergoing IVF as well as between women by age, BMI, race, smoking, and infertility diagnosis. [ed needs further work to link oocyte quality to individual variation. Note they suggest this may reflect variation in the blood follicle barrier. Key observation to egg quality]

WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS As many as 1 in 5 twins born after SET may be the result of a concurrent natural conception. Couples therefore need to be counselled regarding the relative benefits and risks of intercourse in assisted reproduction technology cycles where spontaneous conception is possible.

IVFD Delaying the oocyte maturation trigger by one day leads to a higher metaphase II oocyte yield in IVF/ICSI: a randomised controlled trial
Background:The negative impact of rising progesterone levels on pregnancy rates is well known, but data on mature oocyte yield are conflicting. We examined whether delaying the oocyte maturation trigger in IVF/ICSI affected the number of mature oocytes and investigated the potential influence of serum progesterone levels in this process. Conclusions:Delaying oocyte maturation in patients with low progesterone levels yields greater numbers of matur

IVFD Altered glucose metabolism in mouse and humans conceived by in-vitro fertilization (IVF)
However, only mice conceived by IVF displayed increased fasting glucose, impaired glucose tolerance and reduced insulin-stimulated Akt phosphorylation in liver following 8 weeks of either chow or high-fat diet (60% fat). Thus, ovarian stimulation impaired fetal growth in mouse, but only embryo culture resulted in changes in glucose metabolism that may increase the risk of developing metabolic diseases later in life, and in both mouse and humans.

IVFD Hepatitis B virus infection reduces fertilization ability during in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer
HBV infection was also found to be associated negatively with fertilization rate by logistic regression analysis (odds ratios: 0.410, 95% confidence interval: 0.186–0.906, P :< :0.05). However, there was no significant difference in clinical pregnancy rates between HBsAg-seropositive and HBsAg-seronegative group. These results suggest that chronic HBV infection is likely to represent a significant cause of infertility

IVFD Investing in fertility
Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) is helping many to achieve their dream of children and it is big business. Virtus Health (VRT) took advantage of this societal change last year by becoming one of the biggest Initial Public Offerings, or IPOs, to list on the Australian Stock Exchange in 2013. The company’s share price hasn’t fared overly well so far this year, falling 19% from 2013’s high of $9.20, but Virtus Health’s own company results rel

IVFD Dunya IVF Announced That Baby Gender Selection Is Becoming Hugely Popular for Couples Willing to Travel to Cyprus for It.
Dunya IVF is focusing on the fact that due to regulatory limitations only a few countries in the world offer this treatment. One of the very few countries in Europe to offer gender selection is Cyprus. Dunya IVF Clinic has been operating since 2005 and have successfully performed thousands of IVF procedures with several hundred of them being for gender selection, according to its logs.

IVFD Not your everyday, dull-as-dishwater paternity case.[ed IVFDaily cannot confirm the content of this link but regardless warrants awareness]
Last year Mrs Branum followed up an interest in genealogy by getting all three to take a DNA test through the internet service 23andme. To the family’s dismay, the result showed that Annie and her father were not related. A bit more sleuthing led to the conclusion that Annie’s biological father was Thomas Lippert, a deceased employee of the sperm bank,
