Life-long in vivo cell-lineage tracing shows that no oogenesis originates from putative germline stem cells in adult mice
Whether or not oocyte regeneration occurs in the adult mammalian ovary has been the subject of much debate. By performing a series of in vivo cell-lineage tracing experiments, we have supplied compelling in vivo evidence that mammalian oocytes are not regenerated from any putative germline stem cells in adult life. Our current study provides conclusive evidence that the initial oocyte pool is the only source of fertility throughout reproductive l
Randomized, controlled, open-label, non-inferiority study of the CONSORT algorithm for individualized dosing of follitropin alfa
The primary efficacy analysis found a significantly lower mean [SD] number of oocytes retrieved in the CONSORT (10.0 [5.6]: P = 0.037) versus standard-dosing group (11.8 [5.3]). Although the CONSORT calculator was statistically inferior to standard dosing in the number of oocytes retrieved, clinical pregnancy rates (fresh embryo transfers) were similar in both groups, and incidence of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome was lower in the CONSORT gr
Open versus closed systems for vitrification of human oocytes and embryos
The purpose of this review is to clarify whether open and closed systems are really open and closed: if closed systems are safe and free of any danger of contamination: if closed systems are equally efficient as open ones for cryopreservation of human embryos and oocytes by considering overall outcome: and finally, if ethical and legal concerns are sound when risks and benefits are considered in a broader sense.
Noninvasive embryo viability assessment by quantitation of human haptoglobin alpha-1 fragment in the in vitro fertilization culture medium: an additio
Conclusion(s):Viability of the embryo during the IVF process is assessed by microscopic inspection, resulting in a pregnancy rate of 25%–30%. Detection and quantitation of the α:-1 haptoglobin fragment of the culture medium proved to be a useful additional method for identifying nonviable embryos, increasing the success rate to 50%.
External validation of a time-lapse prediction model
Conclusion(s): This study was unsuccessful in replicating the sensitivity of the previously published model for predicting implantation rate of embryos ranked according to morphokinetic categories. Further work is required to assess the utility of the model for embryo selection. Each team using time-lapse technology should build a center-specific prediction model based on its own data and transfer policy.
Perinatal outcomes associated with assisted reproductive technology: the Massachusetts Outcomes Study of Assisted Reproductive Technologies (MOSART)
Conclusion(s): The use of a population-based comparison group of subfertile births without ART demonstrated significantly higher rates of preterm birth and low birth weight in ART singleton births, but these differences are smaller than differences between ART and fertile births. Further refinement of the measurement of subfertile births and examination of the independent risks of subfertile births is warranted.
Timing luteal support in assisted reproductive technology: a systematic review
Conclusion(s): There appears to be a window for P start time between the evening of oocyte retrieval and day 3 after oocyte retrieval. Although some studies have suggested a potential benefit in delaying vaginal P start time to 2 days after oocyte retrieval, this review could not find randomized controlled trials to adequately assess this. Further randomized clinical trials are needed to better define P start time for luteal support after ART.
Association of number of retrieved oocytes with live birth rate and birth weight: an analysis of 231,815 cycles of in vitro fertilization
higher number of retrieved oocytes was associated with an increased incidence of LBW in autologous singleton pregnancies resulting from transfer of two embryos, but not in donor oocyte cycles. Although the effect of high oocyte number on the incidence of LBW in autologous cycles was of modest magnitude, further study is warranted to determine if a subgroup of women may be particularly vulnerable.
Embryo transfer practices and multiple births resulting from assisted reproductive technology: an opportunity for prevention
A substantial reduction of ART-related multiple (both twin and triplet or higher order) births in the United States could be achieved by single blastocyst transfers among favorable and average prognosis patients less than 35 years of age and donor-oocyte recipients.
