Ultrasound guidance during embryo transfer: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
The available evidence suggests that there is a benefit of using US guidance during ET. However, both US-guided transfer and clinical touch should be considered acceptable, as the benefit of US is not large and should be balanced against the increased cost and need to change the catheter type. More studies are required before conclusions can be drawn regarding the effect of other techniques on reproductive outcome.
Relationship Between Sperm DNA Fragmentation and Nuclear Vacuoles
Conclusions: There is no relationship between the greater number and size of sperm vacuoles with high levels of DNA fragmentation in patients with severe teratozoospermia (Kruger <4%). Conversely, this relationship is evident in normal semen samples (normal morphology. Sperm selection by IMSI technique, to select non-fragmented sperm in patients with Kruger <4%, is not necessarily secured when non-vacuolated sperm is selected.
Annexin V-MACS in Infertile Couples as Method for Separation of Sperm without DNA Fragmentation
Conclusions: The use of MACS technology improves the clinical pregnancy on infertile couples and can be applied as a method for sperm separation, discriminating sperm with high DNA fragmentation.
Reliable single sperm cryopreservation in Cell Sleepers for azoospermia management
Conventional sperm freezing methods perform best when freezing sperm samples containing at least hundreds of spermatozoa. In this severe male factor infertility case series, we examined the reproductive outcomes in 12 intracytoplasmic sperm injection cases where spermatozoa used were frozen in Cell Sleepers. Cell Sleepers are novel devices in which individual spermatozoa can be frozen in microdroplets.
Intracytoplasmic sperm injection outcomes with cryopreserved testicular sperm aspiration samples
Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) may be performed with testicular frozen–thawed spermatozoa in patients with nonobstructive azoospermia (NOA). Sperm retrieval can be performed in advance of oocyte aspiration, as it may avoid the possibility of no recovery of spermatozoa on the day of oocyte pickup. There are few studies available in the literature concerning the use of frozen–thawed spermatozoa obtained from testicular sperm aspiration (TE
Uncommon but devastating event: total fertilisation failure following intracytoplasmic sperm injection
The significant contributing factors for successful fertilisation in the latter cycle were: improved oocyte quantity and better sperm morphology. In conclusion, sporadic TFF event in the first and only cycle is usually a technically modifiable condition, but repeated TFF could indicate possible gamete defects, which might not be overcomed in the next modified ICSI cycle.
Risks associated with obesity in pregnancy, for the mother and baby: a systematic review of reviews
Maternal obesity is also linked to greater risk of preterm birth, large-for-gestational-age babies, foetal defects, congenital anomalies and perinatal death. Furthermore, breastfeeding initiation rates are lower and there is greater risk of early breastfeeding cessation in women with obesity compared with healthy weight women. These adverse outcomes may result in longer duration of hospital stay, with concomitant resource implications
Increased risks in pregnancy for obese mothers and their babies, says study
Women with obesity have a range of increased health risks in pregnancy, both for them and their babies, compared with those in the healthy weight category, according to a new systematic review of research.
How to make a baby (in a lab) - Nassim Assefi and Brian A. Levine [Clients or training video].
Infertility affects 1 in 8 couples worldwide. But in the last 40 years, more than 5 million babies have been born using in vitro fertilization (IVF). How does it work? Nassim Assefi and Brian A. Levine detail the science behind making a baby in a lab
