Allogeneic transplant led to donor-recipient chimerism in sperm from 2/6 adult recipients. Ejaculated sperm from one recipient transplanted with allogeneic donor SSCs were injected into 85 rhesus oocytes via intracytoplasmic sperm injection. Eighty-one oocytes were fertilized, producing embryos ranging from four-cell to blastocyst with donor paternal origin confirmed in 7/81 embryos. This demonstration of functional donor spermatogenesis followin
X Chromosome Inactivation Is Initiated in Human Preimplantation Embryos
These findings indicate that XCI is initiated in female human preimplantation-stage embryos and suggest that preimplantation dosage compensation is evolutionarily conserved in placental mammals. [Free text in AJHG]
X Chromosome Inactivation Is Initiated in Human Preimplantation Embryos
XIST RNA accumulates at the morula and blastocyst stages and is associated with transcriptional silencing of the XIST-coated chromosomal region. These findings indicate that XCI is initiated in female human preimplantation-stage embryos and suggest that preimplantation dosage compensation is evolutionarily conserved in placental mammals.
AZFc Deletions and Spermatogenic Failure: A Population-Based Survey of 20,000 Y Chromosomes
We conclude that a single rare variant of major effect (the b2/b4 deletion) and a single common variant of modest effect (the gr/gr deletion) are largely responsible for the AZFc region’s contribution to SSF in the population.
NATA Medical Testing - Classes of test - see ART 10.95
Accreditation in the field of Medical Testing is described by classes and sub-classes of test. These classes and sub-classes are fixed descriptors, free text being used to qualify or amplify terms as necessary. Where the scope of testing of a laboratory cannot be adequately described by existing
descriptors, the Medical Testing Accreditation Advisory Committee may from time to time establish new classes and/or sub-classes of test. Notification
Sirt3 protects in vitro–fertilized mouse preimplantation embryos against oxidative stress–induced p53-mediated developmental arrest
The inactivation of p53 improved the developmental outcome of Sirt3-knockdown embryos, indicating that the ROS-p53 pathway was responsible for the developmental defects. These results indicate that Sirt3 plays a protective role in preimplantation embryos against stress conditions during in vitro fertilization and culture.
Boys left infertile by childhood cancer treatment may one day be able to produce healthy sperm by using stored stem cells, monkey research suggests.
Chemotherapy and radiotherapy can kill tumours and the cells which make sperm. A study, published in the journal Cell Stem Cell, extracted sperm-producing stem cells before cancer treatment and later placed them back into the monkey.

Sirt3 Helps Protect Preimplantation Mouse Embryos Against Stress Conditions During in Vitro Fertilization
.. the protein Sirt3 helps protect preimplantation mouse embryos against stress conditions during in vitro fertilization and culture. Of potential clinical significance, the negative effects of Sirt3 inactivation on mouse embryos could be overcome by culture in the presence of an antioxidant or in low oxygen conditions.
Genetic Causes of a Male Infertility Disorder Revealed
Severe spermatogenic failure (SSF) is a genetic condition that causes low sperm count and infertility. New insights into the genetic alterations that cause this disorder and their prevalence in populations of men around the world are provided by a study published by Cell Press in the American Journal of Human Genetics on October 25. The findings reveal which alterations are the greatest risk factors for the disease, and they could be immediately

US scientists say a human and animal trial of a controversial new IVF treatment has yielded promising results. The findings in Nature magazine show healthy-looking embryos can be created from a mix of three adult donors.
Male Fertility Can Be Restored After Cancer Treatment, Researchers Find
An injection of banked sperm-producing stem cells can restore fertility to male primates who become sterile due to cancer drug side effects, according to researchers. In their animal study, which was published today in Cell Stem Cell, previously frozen stem cells restored production of sperm that successfully fertilized eggs to produce early embryos.
Women Undergoing IVF Report Problems With Sexual Relationship, Study Finds
An Indiana University study has found that women undergoing IVFn report that the process of infertility treatment has many negative impacts on their sexual relationship with their partner. Little attention has been given to the sexual dynamics of couples as they navigate infertility and treatments such as IVF, despite the important role that sex plays in a couple's attempt to conceive a child.
The Queensland Institute of Medical Research (QIMR) says it has made a significant discovery into the causes of the gynaecological disorder endometriosis. The often painful gynaecological condition affects about 10 per cent of Australian women.
