Frequency of low serum LH is associated with increased early pregnancy loss in IVF/ICSI cycles
In the study group, there were significantly increased early pregnancy loss rates (31.1% versus 16.3%, P = 0.012). The odds of early pregnancy loss increases by 1.55 fold for increased episodes of low serum LH (P = 0.029). Whether the adverse outcome is due to impaired oocyte quality or an endometrial component deserves further investigation.
Transfer of IVF-contaminated blastocysts with removal of the zona pellucida resulted in live births
To minimize the adverse effects of bacterial contamination on transfer outcomes, we removed the zona pellucida of contaminated frozen blastocysts and successfully obtained clinical pregnancies following transfer of zona-free blastocysts that were previously contaminated during IVF culture. Conclusions:Removal of the zona pellucida is an appropriate approach to handle blastocysts contaminated with bacteria during in vitro culture.
Blastocyst culture using single versus sequential media in clinical IVF: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Although using a single medium for extended culture has some practical advantages and blastocyst formation rates appear to be higher, there is insufficient evidence to recommend either sequential or single-step media as being superior for the culture of embryos to days 5/6. Future studies comparing these two media systems in well-designed trials should be performed.
Asymmetric division of contractile domains couples cell positioning and fate specification
During pre-implantation development, the mammalian embryo self-organizes into the blastocyst, which consists of an epithelial layer encapsulating the inner-cell mass (ICM) giving rise to all embryonic tissues . . Here we show that asymmetric segregation of the apical domain generates blastomeres with different contractilities, which triggers their sorting into inner and outer positions.
For a cell in an embryo, the secret to becoming part of the baby's body instead of the placenta is to contract more and carry on dancing, scientists have found. The study could one day have implications for assisted reproduction.
We may soon be able to edit people’s DNA to cure diseases like cancer, but will this lead to designer babies? If so, bioethicist G Owen Schaefer argues that China will lead the way.

Factors such as declining fertility rates, growth in the media age of first-time motherhood, growing cases of male infertility, growth in healthcare expenditure, rise in consumption of alcohol and cigarettes, implementation of government initiatives and introduction of new and advanced products are driving the in vitro fertilization market. However, high cost coupled with low success rate, and restrictive regulation and ethical concerns are expec
