Comment:IVFDaily has an interest in patient factors that effect outcome and in this release there are a few on plastic residue impacts on fertility (one on dogs but that could be translated as applicable for humans) and on weight. There is growing evidence that the weight of both partners may influence childhood well-being and pre-treatment advice and remedial action may be worthwhile. Plus an interesting article on sperm preparation and sperm DNA fragmentation and on PCOS and FETs

Determinants of cumulative ART live-birth rates in a single-center study: age, fertilization modality, and first-cycle outcome
The primary intention for the choice of fertilization modality between IVF and ICSI is the prevention of a relative or total fertilization failure. Such treatment failure is best prevented through ICSI, which results in slightly higher clinical pregnancy rates per started cycle. After embryo transfer, there are no differences in the success rates of IVF and ICSI. The supposed cumulative live-birth rates are useful as a basis for counselling subfe
Variation of DNA Fragmentation levels during density gradient sperm selection for Assisted Reproductive techniques: A possibele new male predictor.
This study provides the first evidence that the DGC procedure produces an increase in sDF in about half of the subjects undergoing IVF/ICSI, who then show a much lower probability of pregnancy, raising concerns about the safety of this selection procedure. Evaluation of sDF before and after DGC configures as a possible new prognostic parameter of pregnancy outcome in IVF/ICSI. Alternative sperm selection strategies are recommended for those subje
Growth hormone co-treatment within a GnRH agonist long protocol improves implantation and pregnancy rates in patients undergoing IVF-ET
Conclusion: Our study showed that co-treatment with GH in a GnRH agonist long protocol in patients who responded normally while undergoing IVF-ET could increase the implantation and pregnancy rates.
Environmental chemicals impact dog semen quality in vitro and may be associated with a temporal decline in sperm motility and increased cryptorchidism
Here we report that a population of breeding dogs exhibit a 26 year (1988–2014) decline in sperm quality and a concurrent increased incidence of cryptorchidism in male offspring (1995–2014). A decline in the number of males born relative to the number of females was also observed. ECs, including diethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) and polychlorinated bisphenol 153 (PCB153), were detected in adult dog testes and commercial dog foods at concentrations re
Effect of assisted hatching on pregnancy outcomes: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
In summary, this meta-analysis supports that AH was associated with an increased chance of achieving clinical pregnancy and multiple pregnancy. Whether AH significantly changes live birth and miscarriage rates needs further investigations.
Effect of paternal overweight or obesity on IVF treatment outcomes and the possible mechanisms involved
We found that couples with male’s BMI over 28 :kg/m2 exhibited a significantly lower fertilization rate, good-quality embryo rate and clinical pregnancy rate compared to their normal BMI counterparts. The mean STL (sperm telomere length) in the overweight BMI group was also significantly shorter than that of the normal BMI group.
Exposure to the BPA-Substitute Bisphenol S Causes Unique Alterations of Germline Function
We found that, similarly to BPA, BPS caused severe reproductive defects including germline apoptosis and embryonic lethality. However, meiotic recombination, targeted gene expression, whole transcriptome and ontology analyses as well as ToxCast data mining all indicate that these effects are partly achieved via mechanisms distinct from BPAs. These findings therefore raise new concerns about the safety of BPA alternatives and the risk associated w
Study demonstrates rapid decline in male dog fertility, with potential link to environmental contaminants
The fertility of dogs may have suffered a sharp decline over the past three decades, a new study has found. The research found that sperm quality in a population of stud dogs studied over a 26-year period had fallen significantly.
Frozen embryos more effective than fresh in women with polycystic ovary syndrome
Women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) who receive frozen embryos during in vitro fertilization have safer and more successful pregnancies than those who get fresh embryos, according to the results of a recent study.
Plastic manufacturing chemical BPS harms egg cells, study suggests
Previous research has found that bisphenol S (BPS), a chemical used in the manufacture of plastic bottles and other products, is as harmful to the reproductive system as bisphenol A (BPA), which BPS replaced. Research suggests that BPS can damage a woman's eggs - and at lower doses than BP
