Evidence that the endometrial microbiota has an effect on implantation success or failure
Our results demonstrate the existence of an endometrial microbiota that is highly stable during the acquisition of endometrial receptivity. However, pathological modification of its profile is associated with poor reproductive outcomes for in vitro fertilization patients. This finding adds a novel microbiological dimension to the reproductive process.
A Surveillance Mechanism Ensures Repair of DNA Lesions during Zygotic Reprogramming
Sexual reproduction culminates in a totipotent zygote with the potential to produce a whole organism. Sperm chromatin reorganization and epigenetic reprogramming that alter DNA and histone modifications generate a totipotent embryo. Active DNA demethylation of the paternal genome has been proposed to involve base excision and DNA repair-based mechanisms.
Woman has 'miracle' baby using ovary frozen in childhood
A 24-year-old woman has given birth in London after doctors restored her fertility using ovarian tissue preserved when she was nine. Although ovarian tissue transplants work for older women, doctors have never successfully used tissue from such a young child, and experts say the news gives hope to women with childhood illnesses
Fertilized egg cells trigger, monitor loss of sperm's epigenetic memory
Scientists have discovered how an embryo’s genomic integrity is safeguarded during the first 24 hours after fertilization. Insights into this mechanism have implications for improving in vitro fertilization.
Uterine microbiota play a key role in implantation and pregnancy success in in vitro fertilization
Endometrial microbiota (bacteria in the uterine cavity) play an important role in determining whether women are able to get pregnant via in vitro fertilization (IVF), according to a new study.
What happens in the cell nucleus after fertilization?
A team of scientists shows changes in the immediate environment of DNA after the ovum and sperm fuse to form the zygote. The results suggest why all conceivable somatic cells can develop from the germ cells.
Non-growing follicle density is increased following adriamycin, bleomycin, vinblastine and dacarbazine (ABVD) chemotherapy in the adult human ovary
This study confirms that the number of NGFs is not depleted following ABVD treatment, consistent with clinical data that female fertility is preserved. Our findings demonstrate that immature follicle density can increase as well as decrease following at least one chemotherapy treatment.
