High-protein paternal diet confers an advantage to sons in sperm competition
We found that males reared on high-protein diet had sons that fared better during sperm competition, suggesting that postcopulatory sexual selection is subject to transgenerational paternal effects. Moreover, immune response genes were downregulated in sons of low-protein fathers, while genes involved in metabolic and reproductive processes were upregulated.
Risks associated with cryopreservation: a survey of assisted conception units in the UK and Ireland [2009]
The number of serious and not so serious adverse events/situations relating to both staff and sample safety are discussed in detail. The incidence of problems was certainly higher than we had imagined: the lack of general training and awareness amongst our staff is a serious cause for concern, and appears to leave the industry vulnerable. Moreover, the survey highlighted the need for a coordinated approach to the collection of more detailed infor
Resveratrol and Epigallocatechin-3-gallate addition to thawed boar sperm improves in vitro fertilization
In conclusion, our results indicate that the addition of different doses of the two antioxidants to thawed spermatozoa for one hour, even if does not exert any effect on sperm viability and acrosome integrity, efficiently improves in vitro penetration rate. Moreover, both molecules (EGCG 25 and 50 μ:M and Res 2 mM) significantly increases the total efficiency of fertilization.
Father's diet impacts on son's ability to reproduce, study in flies suggests
The view that males just pass on genetic material and not much else to their offspring has now been debunked. Instead, new research found a father's diet can affect their son's ability to out-compete a rival's sperm after mating. [in flies].
Obstetric and neo-natal outcomes of ICSI cycles using pentoxifylline to identify viable spermatozoa in patients with immotile spermatozoa
Among singletons, the rates of low birthweight (≤::2500 ::g) and preterm birth (<37 weeks) were 6.1% and12%, respectively. Regarding malformation rate per live births, 4/122 (3.3%, 95% confidence interval: 0.9–8.2%) babies with ICD-10 malformations were recorded. This is the first report on neo-natal outcomes deriving from PF-ICSI. Although based on a limited cohort, results do not suggest an increase of adverse outcomes, including mal
Effect of progesterone elevation in follicular phase of IVF-cycles on the endometrial receptivity
This progesterone [1.5 ng/ml] level seems to represent the critical threshold, at which a negative effect on the ongoing pregnancy rate in fresh IVF cycles can be observed. Moreover, no association exists between progesterone elevation in the fresh cycle, and the probability of pregnancy after transfer of frozen–thawed embryos, originating from that cycle. The causes of premature progesterone elevation during ovarian stimulation are still unclea
Clinical outcomes after IVF or ICSI using human blastocysts derived from oocytes containing aggregates of smooth endoplasmic reticulum
Thus, blastocysts derived from SER + cycles exhibited an acceptable ongoing pregnancy rate after IVF (n = 125) or ICSI (n = 117) cycles. In conclusion, blastocysts from SER + MII in both IVF and ICSI cycles yield adequate ongoing pregnancy rates with neo-natal outcomes that do not differ from SER–MII.
