Mathematical methodology to obtain and compare different embryo scores
First, statistical models were used to study embryo traceability from transfer to implantation and to evaluate the effect of the quality of the embryos (embryo score) and women’s age on implantation potential. This score was obtained by making predictions from the fitted model which was used to rank embryos in terms of implantation potential.
Sperm counts may have declined in young university students in Southern Spain
Sperm concentration and total sperm count declined significantly with year of birth in the pooled analysis (β::: = −:::0.04 and β::: = −:::0.06, respectively, both p < 0.01). Sperm counts were significantly lower in Murcia study subjects than in the Almeria participants: sperm concentration median (5th–95th) = 44.0 (8.9–129) million/mL vs. 51.0 (5.0–206) million/mL: p < 0.01 and total sperm count = 121 (17.8–400) million vs. 149
Incidence of pulmonary and venous thromboembolism in pregnancies after in vitro fertilisation: cross sectional study
In vitro fertilisation is associated with an increased risk of pulmonary embolism and venous thromboembolism during the first trimester. The risk of pulmonary embolism is low in absolute terms but because the condition is a leading cause of maternal mortality and clinical suspicion is critical for diagnosis, an awareness of this risk is important.

Surrogate Births: How Low Levels of Monitoring and Regulation Could Lead to Exploitation
UK researchers have sounded warnings about the international dimension to surrogacy. Couples seeking to build a family, and surrogate mothers overseas who help them, are in danger of emotional, physical and financial exploitation unless UK authorities monitor and regulate the field much more closely, according to a University of Huddersfield professor who has published the results of a detailed investigation

The first comparative study on the evolution of sperm quality in young Spanish men over ten years, headed by researchers at the University of Murcia, reveals that spermatozoid concentration in men between 18 and 23 years in the regions of Murcia and Almeria has dropped by an annual average of 2%.
Blood Clots and Artery Blockage More Likely During IVF Pregnancies, Study Suggests
In vitro fertilization (IVF) is associated with an increased risk of pulmonary embolism (blockage of the main artery of the lung) and venous thromboembolism (blood clots) during the first trimester of pregnancy, a study published today on bmj.com suggests.
