IVFD Mature oocyte cryopreservation: a guideline
Although data are limited, no increase in chromosomal abnormalities, birth defects, and developmental deficits has been reported in the offspring born from cryopreserved oocytes when compared to pregnancies from conventional IVF/ICSI and the general population. Evidence indicates that oocyte vitrification and warming should no longer be considered experimental.

IVFD Criteria for number of embryos to transfer: a committee opinion
Based on American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology data available for 2010, ASRM's guidelines for the number of embryos to be transferred in in vitro fertilization cycles have been further refined in continuing efforts to reduce the number of higher-order multiple pregnancies. This version replaces the document titled Guidelines on number of embryos transferred that was published most recen

IVFD Immature Oocytes in “Apparent Empty Follicle Syndrome”: A Case Report
In this report, we present a case of apparent GEFS, in which immature oocytes were identified after filtration of follicular aspirates. Our findings suggest that delayed maturation of oocyte cumulus complexes in response to HCG might be an etiologic mechanism in some cases of GEFS. This creates a situation similar to the aspiration of immature follicles, where germinal vesicle-stage oocytes with dense scanty cumulus cells are often difficult to i

IVFD Metabolite Profiling in the Pursuit of Biomarkers for IVF Outcome: The Case for Metabolomics Studies
Metabolomics is becoming more established in the field of assisted conception, but the studies performed so far have been preliminary and not all potential applications have yet been explored. With further improved metabolomics studies, the possibility of identifying a method for predicting IVF outcome may become a reality.

IVFD Premature birth and low birthweight are associated with a lower rate of reproduction in adulthood: a Swedish population-based registry study
The results suggest that being born with low birthweight, premature or SGA (for males) is associated with a reduced probability of reproducing as an adult. LGA shows no statistically significant relationship with future reproduction.

IVFD Comparison of Naturally Conceived and IVF-DZ Twins in the Netherlands Twin Registry: A Developmental Study
Results showed no differences in growth, in attainment of motor milestones, and in behavioral development between IVF and matched NC twins. It can be concluded that for nearly all aspects, development in IVF and NC children is similar.

IVFD Germline DNA Demethylation Dynamics and Imprint Erasure Through 5-Hydroxymethylcytosine
Mouse primordial germ cells (PGCs) undergo sequential epigenetic changes and genome-wide DNA demethylation to reset the epigenome for totipotency. Here, we demonstrate that erasure of CpG methylation (5mC) in PGCs occurs via conversion to 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC), driven by high levels of TET1 and TET2.

IVFD Increased risk of preterm birth in singleton pregnancies after blastocyst versus Day 3 embryo transfer: Canadian ART Register (CARTR) analysis
Preterm birth rate <37 weeks (unadjusted by potential confounding factors) was higher with Day 5/6 versus Day 3 transfers (17.2 versus 14.1%, P < 0.001). Using logistic regression analysis to adjust for confounding factors, preterm birth rate <37 weeks was the only outcome significantly increased after Day 5/6 compared with Day 3 transfer (odds ratio 1.32, 95% confidence interval 1.17–1.49). The following confounding factors were adjusted for: y

IVFD The influence of the type of embryo culture medium on neonatal birthweight after single embryo transfer in IVF
Although our data do not indicate the major influences of the HTF and Sage® culture media on birthweight, our results cannot be extrapolated to other culture media types. Furthermore, there remains a potential influence of embryo culture environment on epigenetic variation not represented by birthweight differences but by more subtle features.

IVFD Scientists Discover How Epigenetic Information Could Be Inherited: Mechanism of Epigenetic Reprogramming Revealed
Epigenetics is a system that turns our genes on and off. The process works by chemical tags, known as epigenetic marks, attaching to DNA and telling a cell to either use or ignore a particular gene. Scientists have witnessed epigenetic inheritance, the observation that offspring may inherit altered traits due to their parents' past experiences.

IVFD 'Induce older mums early to cut stillbirth risk'
Pregnant women aged over 40 should be given the option of being induced early to reduce the risks of losing their baby, says a Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists paper. Inducing these women at 39 weeks instead of the normal 41 could prevent 17 stillbirths in the UK each year, the authors said.

IVFD IVF Method May Influence Size Of Babies (STUDY)
Embryos that spend long periods growing in culture (around five to six days) before being transferred to the mother’s womb are more likely to be born heavier than normal for their gestational age, compared to embryos that spend a shorter period in culture (two to three days), the study found. (Gestational age refers to how far along a pregnancy is.)

IVFD Prenatal Inflammation Linked to Autism Risk
Maternal inflammation during early pregnancy may be related to an increased risk of autism in children, according to new findings supported by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), part of the National Institutes of Health. Researchers found this in children of mothers with elevated C-reactive protein (CRP), a well-established marker of systemic inflammation.
