Informing offspring of their conception by gamete or embryo donation: an Ethics Committee opinion [2018]
Because of each person's fundamental interest in knowing their genetic heritage and the importance of their ability to make informed health-care decisions in the future, the Ethics Committee supports disclosure about the fact of their donor conception to offspring. It also supports the gathering and storage of medical and genetic history information that can be provided to offspring if they request
Age-associated sperm DNA methylation patterns do not directly persist trans-generationally
This study suggests that the robust and consistent age-associated methylation alterations seen in human sperm are ‘reset’ during large-scale epigenetic reprograming processes and are not directly inherited trans-generationally (over two generations). An extremely small trend was present between the YGPA and OGPA groups that resemble the aging pattern in older sperm. However, this trend was not significant and was so small that, if real, is almost
Oxidative stress in sperm affects the epigenetic reprogramming in early embryonic development
Conclusions
The data demonstrate that oxidative stress in [cattle] sperm has an impact not only on DNA integrity but also on the dynamics of epigenetic reprogramming, which may harm the paternal genetic and epigenetic contribution to the developing embryo and affect embryo development and embryo quality.
Levels of caspase-3 and histidine-rich glycoprotein in the embryo secretome as biomarkers of good-quality day-2 embryos and high-quality blastocysts
In conclusion, in future prediction models, levels of caspase-3 and HRG might be used as potential markers of embryo quality, and secreted caspase-3 levels could to some extent predict the outcome after transfer of day-2 cultured embryos.
The incidence of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy following sperm donation in IVF: an Australian state-wide retrospective cohort study
These findings suggest that exposure to new sperm may not be implicated in the pathogenesis of preeclampsia. The mechanism of increased risk seen in conceptions arising from egg or embryo donation remains unclear. Further investigation is required to elucidate these mechanisms and, ultimately, improve pregnancy outcomes following IVF
Effect of a 6-week “Mediterranean” dietary intervention on in vitro human embryo development: the Preconception Dietary Supplements in Assisted Reprod
Result(s): There was no difference in CC2 between the two groups. However, CC4 was accelerated in the study group compared with the control group, and a significantly shortened S3 as well as an increase in KIDScore on day 3 were observed, indicating improved embryo quality in the study group.
Here, we show that somatic granulosa cells isolated from adult mouse ovaries can be robustly induced to generate gPSCs by a purely chemical approach, with additional Rock inhibition and critical reprogramming facilitated by crotonic sodium or acid. These gPSCs acquired high germline competency and could consistently be directed to differentiate into primordial-germ-cell-like cells and form functional oocytes that produce fertile mice.
Chinese scientist He Jiankui, who 'gene-edited' babies, jailed for practising medicine illegally
Chinese scientist He Jiankui, who claimed he made the world's first "gene-edited" babies by altering human embryos in 2018, has been convicted on charges of practising medicine illegally, according to Chinese state media.
Mouse pups born from eggs derived from the granulosa cells that surround oocytes
By introducing a chemical cocktail to granulosa cells, researchers induced the cells to transform into functional oocytes in mice. Once fertilized, these oocytes were then successfully able to produce healthy offspring, showing no differences from naturally bred mice.
