IVFD Prediction of live birth in frozen–thawed single blastocyst transfer cycles by pre-freeze and post-thaw morphology
Blastocysts with higher pre-freeze grades of expansion and TE, irrespective of day of cryopreservation, should be given priority when thawing. Subsequently, re-expanding blastocysts, assessed within 2–4 h, with >60% viability should be transferred.

IVFD Blastocyst culture and cryopreservation to optimize clinical outcomes of warming cycles
Blastocyst culture as an embryo selection tool will not improve embryo viability but it will help patients to achieve pregnancy more quickly. Extended culture of surplus embryos to the blastocyst stage for cryopreservation optimizes the clinical outcomes.

IVFD Developmental dynamics of IMSI-derived embryos: a time-lapse prospective study
Embryos arising from normal class-I spermatozoa (without vacuoles) reached the 4-cell stage significantly earlier than embryos developed from class-IV spermatozoa (with large vacuoles and other abnormalities) (P = 0.012). Blastocysts from class-I spermatozoa required the shortest mean time for all developmental events in comparison with blastocysts from spermatozoa of other classes (with vacuoles). Blastocysts also showed significantly earlier f

IVFD Morphokinetics and embryo aneuploidy: has time come or not yet? [In Press]
Based on these findings, a model for a risk factor classification for aneuploidy of human embryos has been established. However, time values that allow differentiation between different risk classes have to be considered carefully as timings that are prognostic for one clinic may not apply directly to another clinic. Thus, risk models may need to be verified in specific IVF settings.

IVFD Fetuin-B, a Liver-Derived Plasma Protein Is Essential for Fertilization
Mechanistically, fetuin-B sustains fertility by inhibiting ovastacin, a cortical granula protease known to trigger ZP hardening. Thus, plasma fetuin-B is necessary to restrain protease activity and thereby maintain ZP permeability until after gamete fusion. These results also show that premature ZP hardening can cause infertility in mice.

IVFD The molecular basis of gamete recognition in mice and humans
Successful fertilization heralds the onset of development and requires both gamete recognition and a definitive block to polyspermy. Sperm initially bind and penetrate the extracellular zona pellucida (ZP) that surrounds ovulated eggs, but are unable to bind the zona surrounding preimplantation embryos.

IVFD Ovulation in Drosophila is controlled by secretory cells of the female reproductive tract
Our results imply that proteins secreted during adulthood by the canonical secretory pathway from female reproductive glands are needed to store sperm, while a non-canonical glandular secretion stimulates ovulation. Our results suggest that the reproductive tract signals to the ovary using glandular secretions, and that this pathway has been conserved during evolution.

IVFD Implantation failure in mice with a disruption in Phospholipase C beta 1 gene: lack of embryonic attachment, aberrant steroid hormone signalling and d
Collectively, our results show that PLCβ:1 is essential for uterine preparation for implantation, and that defective PLCβ:1-mediated signalling during implantation is associated with aberrant ovarian steroid signalling and endocannabinoid metabolism.

IVFD Intracellular signalling during female gametogenesis
Female reproductive potential is dictated by the size of the primordial follicle pool and the correct regulation of oocyte maturation and activation—events essential for production of viable offspring. Although a substantial body of work underpins our understanding of these processes, the molecular mechanisms of follicular and oocyte development are not fully understood.

IVFD Made-to-Order Embryos for Sale — A Brave New World?
Embryo donation (also known as embryo adoption) is the compassionate gifting of residual cryopreserved embryos by consenting parents to infertile recipients. At present, only a limited number of such transactions occur. In 2010, the last year for which U.S. data were available, fewer than 1000 embryo donations were recorded. These acts of giving, unencumbered by federal law, are being guided by a limited number of state laws.

IVFD Reproductive Tract Secretions Elicit Ovulation
Eggs take a long time to produce in the ovary, and thus are one of a body's precious resources. It has been theorized that the body has mechanisms to help the ovary ensure that ovulated eggs enter the reproductive tract at the right time in order to maximize the chance of successful fertilization.
