Association between blood lipid level and embryo quality during in vitro fertilization
TG, TC, LDL, and Lp(b) levels had negative correlation with embryo quality, while HDL and Lp(a) had positive correlation with the embryo quality. Our present findings showed blood lipid levels may provide certain reference for the prediction of IVF pregnancy outcome.
Comparison of DNA methylation patterns of parentally imprinted genes in placenta derived from IVF conceptions in two different culture media
We found no statistically significant differences in the mean DNA methylation status of any of the imprinted DMRs in placentas derived from IVF conceptions cultured in HTF or G5 culture medium.
We asked the Editors of the ESHRE journals to review the articles published in 2019 and pick out a selection of articles they wish to highlight for the year as worthy of a second look. We’ve made these articles free for you to enjoy until the end of March 2020.
Optimizing the protocol for vitrification of individual spermatozoa by adjusting equilibration time
Post-thaw motility correlated negatively with cryoprotectant exposure time. The highest post-warming motility rate (32.1%) was observed with 8-minutes equilibration. After 10 minutes, motility rate of vitrified sperm was lower than that of bulk-freezing (31.7% x37.0%). Different cryoprotectants did not affect the results. Therefore, for vitrifying small numbers of spermatozoa, we suggest maximum equilibration time of 8-minutes to achieve maximum
MicroRNAs in combined spent culture media and sperm are associated with embryo quality and pregnancy outcome
Conclusion(s) miRNA abundance levels in combined SCM and sperm differed significantly depending on embryo quality and pregnancy outcome. MiR-19b-3p may serve as a potential biomarker to predict pregnancy outcome.
Ovarian Reserve Markers to Identify Poor Responders in the Context of Poseidon Classification
Prediction of poor response may help clinicians choose the stimulation protocol with the aim of gaining patient compliance and cost reduction, and many efforts have been made by researchers in this sense, including the formulation of the Bologna criteria and of the POSEIDON classification, in which the ovarian reserve markers (AMH and AFC) play a fundamental role.
COVID-19: lessons from the Italian reproductive medical experience
By the time you’re reading this, much will have transpired. That’s the story with the exponential spread of an infection across the globe: it all happens so fast.
Thus, GnRHa trigger already has a pivotal role, not only for the standard in vitro fertilisation (IVF) patient, but also for patient groups like oocyte donors, cancer patients, patients with poor ovarian reserve, and patients with immature oocyte syndrome and empty follicle syndrome. Herein, we discuss the importance of the GnRHa-elicited midcycle FSH surge and the potential improvement in oocyte yield and embryo competence.
