IVFD Changes in DNA fragmentation during sperm preparation for intracytoplasmic sperm injection over time
Sperm DNA fragmentation significantly decreased after centrifugation gradient, regardless of the initial levels of the sample. Samples with TUNEL ≥:20% were more susceptible to a significant increase in DNA fragmentation over time, with similar increases being observed over time for samples that were incubated in HA or PVP. These data may be relevant for sperm preparation for intracytoplasmic sperm injection.

IVFD Variability in protein quality used for embryo culture: embryotoxicity of the stabilizer octanoic acid
The stabilizer octanoic acid varies by lot and inhibits embryo development. Because octanoic acid is known to cause disruptions in mitochondrial bioenergetics, reduce intracellular pH, and induce oxidative damage in peripheral tissues, its use in embryo culture should be monitored and limited.

IVFD Age-specific probability of live birth with oocyte cryopreservation: an individual patient data meta-analysis
The live birth probabilities we calculated would enable more accurate counseling and informed decisions for infertile women considering oocyte cryopreservation. Given the success probabilities, we suggest that policy makers should consider oocyte freezing as an integral part of prevention and treatment of infertility.

IVFD Female mice lack adult germ-line stem cells but sustain oogenesis using stable primordial follicles
We used a sensitive lineage-labeling system to determine whether stem cells are needed in female adult mice to compensate for follicular losses and to directly identify active germ-line stem cells. Primordial follicles generated during fetal life are highly stable, with a half-life during adulthood of 10 mo, and thus are sufficient to sustain adult oogenesis without a source of renewal.

IVFD Antimüllerian hormone in gonadotropin releasing-hormone antagonist cycles: prediction of ovarian response and cumulative treatment outcome in good-pro
There is a positive relationship between AMH and oocyte yield in GnRH antagonist cycles, and AMH is the best predictor for identifying patients with poor and high ovarian response. The positive association between AMH and cumulative live-birth rates after fresh and cryopreserved cycles reflects the availability of more oocytes/blastocysts, not higher quality.

IVFD Fertility treatment and childhood cancer risk: a systematic meta-analysis
The results of the largest meta-analysis on this topic to date indicate an association between fertility treatment and cancer in offspring. However, our results do not rule out that factors related to underlying subfertility, rather than the procedure itself, are the most important predisposing factors for childhood cancer.

IVFD Modelling a risk classification of aneuploidy in human embryos using non-invasive morphokinetics
Embryos having single or multiple aneuploidy (median 103.4 hpi, P=0.004 and 101.9 hpi, P=0.006, respectively) had delayed initiation of blastulation compared with euploid embryos (median 95.1hpi). No significant differences were observed in first or second cell-cycle length, synchrony of the second or third cell cycles, duration of blastulation, multinucleation at the 2-cell stage and irregular division patterns between euploid and aneuploid embr

IVFD Researchers Shed New Light On Egg Freezing Success Rates
Researchers from New York Medical College and the University of California Davis have for the first time codified age-specific probabilities of live birth after in vitro fertilization (IVF) with frozen eggs. A team of researchers led by Kutluk Oktay, M.D., a New York Medical College physician/scientist who specializes in preserving the fertility of female cancer patients, conducted a meta-analysis of oocyte cryopreservation cycles using individua

IVFD IVF Babies May Be at Higher Cancer Risk
Children born after in vitro fertilization (IVF) or other fertility treatments appear to be at modestly elevated risk of cancer, although causality still isn't clear, a meta-analysis showed. The risk of any childhood cancer was 33% higher after medically-assisted reproduction compared with spontaneously conceived controls, Susanne Krüger Kjaer, MD, DMSc, of the Danish Cancer Society Research Center in Copenhagen, and colleagues found.

IVFD Breakthrough for IVF? Selecting the Most Promising Embryos
A recent study in Reproductive BioMedicine Online on 5-day old human blastocysts shows that those with an abnormal chromosomal composition can be identified by the rate at which they have developed to blastocysts, thereby classifying the risk of genetic abnormality without a biopsy. In a new study the same group has undertaken a retrospective study, using their predictive model to assess the likelihood of any embryo transferred resulting in a su

IVFD Opioids Tied to Low T, Erectile Dysfunction?
Opioid use, particularly long-term use, may be associated with erectile dysfunction and low testosterone, researchers found. Men who used opioids long-term for back pain were significantly more likely to use erectile dysfunction and hormone replacement therapies than men who did not use opioids (OR 1.45, 95% CI 1.12-1.87, P<0.01), according to Richard Deyo, MD, of the Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, and colleagues.

IVFD Adults Lack Stem Cells for Making New Eggs
Mammalian females ovulate periodically over their reproductive lifetimes, placing significant demands on their ovaries for egg production. Whether mammals generate new eggs in adulthood using stem cells has been a source of scientific controversy. If true, these "germ-line stem cells" might allow novel treatments for infertility and other diseases. However, new research from Carnegie's Lei Lei and Allan Spradling demonstrates that adult mice do n

IVFD IVF: Outcome Better with Single Embryo Transfer
When it comes to in vitro fertilization, could transferring one embryo be better than transferring two? Yes, say New Jersey researchers who found that transferring just one chromosomally normal embryo during IVF is associated with the same delivery rates – but better obstetrical and pediatric outcomes – than the more standard procedure of transferring two unscreened embryos.
