Sperm Selection Strategies and Their Impact on Assisted Reproductive Technology Outcomes
In this review, different sperm selection strategies for retrieving spermatozoa with the highest fertilising potential and their impact on ART outcomes are discussed. In addition, advantages and disadvantages of each method and the best suited techniques for each clinical scenario are described.
Response to stimulation in IVF may predict longer term health risks
A follow-up study of almost 20,000 young women who had a first cycle of IVF in Denmark between 1995 and 2014 indicates that those who responded poorly to treatment, with few eggs collected, are at a significantly increased risk of later age-related diseases. The findings, says investigator Mette Wulf Christensen from Aarhus University in Denmark, suggest an "association with early ovarian ageing and an accelerated ageing process in general”.(1)
Varying levels of serum estradiol do not alter the timing of the early endometrial secretory transformation
Given that the endometrial response to P4 is unaffected by E2 levels in the supraphysiologic range, diminutions in implantation seen in stimulated cycles may result from embryonic-endometrial dyssynchrony following early P4 elevations or slowly blastulating embryos, which occur independently of the magnitude of the E2 rise.
Ovarian Reserve as a Predictor of Cumulative Live Birth
Conclusion: Our prediction model estimates a couple's individualised probability of achieving a live birth after their first complete cycle of IVF using all known pre-treatment predictors.
Transcriptome profiling reveals signaling conditions dictating human spermatogonia fate in vitro
The ability to culture human spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs) in vitro is critical to develop SSC therapeutic approaches to treat male infertility. To achieve this goal, it is important to define molecular pathways in human SSCs. Toward this end, we developed an approach to purify human primitive undifferentiated spermatogonia (uSPG) highly enriched in SSCs.
Artificial intelligence in the IVF laboratory: overview through the application of different types of algorithms for the classification of reproductiv
We provide some current (although incipient) and potential uses of AI on the clinic routine, discussing how accurate and friendly it could be. Finally, we propose some standards for AI research on the selection of the embryo to be transferred and other future hints. For us, the imminence of its use is evident, providing a revolutionary milestone that will impact the ART.
Sperm swim up to 70 per cent faster when they have a lazy tail.
A human sperm can move up to 70 per cent faster if it has a lazy tail, a finding that could pave the way for new fertility diagnostic tests.
Sperm cells use their tails to swim, though some don’t use the whole tail – leaving a piece at the end inactive. This part only constitutes about 3 to 5 per cent of a normal sperm tail – which is usually between 50 and 55 micrometres long – and doesn’t actively bend like the rest of
Lab-grown sperm could let infertile men have gene-edited children.
The first reliable way of isolating sperm stem cells from the testes and growing them outside the body could help infertile men have genetic children of their own.
