Controlled ovarian stimulation and progesterone supplementation affect vaginal and endometrial microbiota in IVF cycles: a pilot study
Our findings suggest that COS and P supplementation significantly change the composition of vaginal and endometrial microbiota. The greater instability could affect both endometrial receptivity and placentation. If our findings are confirmed, they may provide a further reason to encourage the freeze-all strategy.
Characterization of the Vaginal Microbiome in Women with Infertility and Its Potential Correlation with Hormone Stimulation during In Vitro Fertilizat
Our results show that women suffering from infertility (infertile women) exhibit a significant decrease in microbiome diversity and richness compared with healthy women during the nonovulation period (follicular phase), whereas vaginal microbiome of healthy women reveals dramatic fluctuations during ovulation. Interestingly, infertility patients show no change of the vaginal microbiome under conditions of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) ag
Predictive value of the sperm DNA fragmentation index for low or failed IVF fertilization in men with mild-to-moderate asthenozoospermia
For men with mild-to-moderate asthenozoospermia, a high sperm DFI is associated with a decreased fertilization rate and an increased risk of a TFF or LFR. Additional prospectively-designed studies are warranted to confirm our results.
Relationship between sperm morphology and sperm DNA dispersion
The obtained findings demonstrated that: (I) detailed sperm structural defects coexist with abnormal nuclear sperm DNA dispersion, (II) men with teratozoospermia may have a higher risk for sperm DNA damage, (III) the calculated optimal SDF value of 18% measured by the DNA sperm dispersion test is the best criterion to predict normal and abnormal sperm morphology.
GM-CSF (granulocyte macrophage colony-stimulating factor) supplementation in culture media for women undergoing assisted reproduction
Due to the very low to low quality of the evidence, we cannot be certain whether GM-CSF is any more or less effective than culture media not supplemented with GM-CSF for clinical outcomes that reflect effectiveness and safety.
Increased risk of severe maternal morbidity in women with twin pregnancies resulting from oocyte donation
Our study showed an increased risk of SAMM in women with twin pregnancies after MAR, notably after IVF using autologous oocytes and particularly after oocyte donation. To avoid unnecessary exposure to the high-risk combination of MAR and multiple pregnancies, transfer of a single embryo should be encouraged whenever possible
COVID-19 screening during fertility treatment: how do guidelines compare against each other?
It proposes the more liberal use of viral testing for improving detection of asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic fertility patients. It also argues that a negative test result on symptomatic individuals should not be over-relied upon for allowing the treatment to proceed. In these cases, a low threshold for cancellation may still need to be maintained.
Is there a correlation between paternal age and aneuploidy rate? An analysis of 3,118 embryos derived from young egg donors
Conclusion(s): No association was found between paternal age and aneuploidy rates in embryos derived from IVF cycles using young oocyte donors, after adjusting for donor, sperm, and IVF cycle characteristics. Advanced paternal age ≥: 50, compared with younger paternal ages, was associated with a lower fertilization rate and increased rate of segmental aberrations
New test offers clarity for couples struggling to conceive
A male fertility test could help predict which men might need treatment and which couples might have success with different forms of assisted reproduction.
Take a deeper dive into current topics in reproductive medicine including infertility, contraception, and disorders of the male and female reproductive system.
