The impact of the origin of surgical sperm retrieval on placental and embryonic development: The Rotterdam Periconception cohort
Here we demonstrate that the first trimester growth trajectory of the placenta is increased in pregnancies conceived after TESE‐:ICSI compared to those conceived after ICSI with ejaculated sperm. Findings are discussed in the light of known differences in sperm DNA integrity, epigenetics, and placental gene expression.
Live birth outcomes in infertile patients with class III and class IV obesity following fresh embryo transfer
Overall, patients with a BMI > 40 have worse IVF treatment outcomes compared to normal-weight patients. After embryo transfer, their pregnancy rate is comparable to normal-weight women: however, their miscarriage rate is higher, leading to a lower live birth rate for pregnant women in this population.
Three hour abstinence as a treatment for high sperm DNA fragmentation: a prospective cohort study
High SDF can often be managed with a second ejaculation 3 h after the first in infertile couples, including in males with abnormal semen analyses per the 2010 WHO guide.
Birth outcomes are superior after transfer of fresh versus frozen embryos for donor oocyte recipients
Among donor oocyte recipients, fresh ETs may be associated with better birth outcomes. Reassuringly, given its prevalent use, modern embryo cryopreservation does not appear to result in phenotypically larger infants.
Does the use of microfluidic sperm sorting for the sperm selection improve in vitro fertilization success rates in male factor infertility?
Conclusion: Microfluidic devices, "labs-on-a-chip," are a disposable, easy to use, and inexpensive method for sperm sorting. Our results show that IVF success rates might improve with the use of a microfluidic sperm-sorting chip for sperm selection in male infertility.
Spontaneous in vitro hatching of the human blastocyst: the proteomics of initially hatching cells
Forty nine proteins were significantly upregulated in hatching cells and 17 in the TE cells. There was minimal overlap between hatching and TE samples: only serine protease inhibitors (SERPINS) and lipocalin were detected in both samples. Myosin and actin were highly upregulated in the hatching cells as well as paraoxonase, N-acetylmuramoyl alanine amidase, and SERPINS clade A and galectin.
Time-lapse imaging derived morphokinetic variables reveal association with implantation and live birth following in vitro fertilization: A retrospecti
The three above mentioned variables (t2, cc2 below one threshold and cc2 above another threshold) may supplement morphological evaluation in embryo selection and thereby improve the outcome of in vitro fertilization treatments.
Advances of microfluidic technology in reproductive biology
These microfluidic characteristics can assist in basic biological studies on sperm, oocyte and preimplantation embryo structure, function and environment. Using microfluidics in sorting sperm, conducting different steps of oocyte selection and preparation, and transferring embryo by passing sub-microliter fluid through microchannels results in low cost and short time. The size and shape of microchannels and the volume of used fluid differs from n
Medical research and reproductive medicine in an ethical context: a critical commentary on the paper dealing with uterine lavage published by Munné et
A recent study published in Human Reproduction claimed that uterine lavage offers a non-surgical, minimally invasive strategy for the recovery of human embryos from fertile women who do not want or need IVF for medical reasons but who desire preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) for embryos. To prove this hypothesis, the researchers recruited dozens of young Mexican women.
