Time-lapse parameters as predictors of blastocyst development and pregnancy outcome in embryos from good prognosis patients: a prospective cohort stud
Duration of the first cytokinesis, duration of the 3-cell stage and direct cleavage to 3-cells predicted development to high-quality blastocyst. We found no difference in timing between implanted and non-implanted embryos. Our results in context with the lack of consistency in previous studies and the presumed influences of different external factors indicate that a universal algorithm for optimal timing of development might not be feasible.
Factors affecting the outcome of frozen–thawed embryo transfer
The presence of ≥:1 top quality embryo at any step of the freezing and thawing process increases the chance of pregnancy. The data do not support the freezing of all embryos for transfer in order to improve the outcome. A top quality embryo transferred in FET may even have the same potential as in a fresh cycle. On the contrary, LBR in the group with no top quality embryos frozen was quite low (10.4%), raising the question of whether a re-ev
Attitudes towards embryo donation among infertile couples with frozen embryos
Of the respondents, 76% supported the donation of surplus embryos to other infertile couples, but there were divided opinions regarding the disclosure of the genetic parents' identities. Close to 60% of the participants indicated that donations of embryos should be allowed for research and about 45% of the participants approved donations of embryos to single women.
Mitochondrial DNA content in embryo culture medium is significantly associated with human embryo fragmentation
For the first time, we demonstrate that both gDNA and mtDNA are detectable in the secretome. The amount of DNA is larger in embryos with bad quality cleavage compared with high-grade embryos, suggesting that the DNA profile of culture medium is an objective marker for embryo quality assessment. In particular, DNA profiles are significantly associated with fragmentation feature and advanced maternal age.
Delayed Puberty and Estrogen Resistance in a Woman with Estrogen Receptor α: Variant
Although androgen resistance has been characterized in men with a normal chromosome complement and mutations in the androgen-receptor gene, a mutation in the gene encoding estrogen receptor α: (ESR1) was previously described only in one man and not, to our knowledge, in a woman.
Sperm DNA Fragmentation Assays Correlate with Sperm Abnormal Morphology and the Pregnancy Outcome
Conclusions: These data suggest a similar efficacy of sperm chromatin dispersion and Terminal Uridine Nick-End Labelling in detecting sperm DNA integrity. Due to the higher sensitivity of Halo test, its prognostic role in the diagnosis of fertilizing ability of a semen sample and possible pregnancy rate is discussed
Modified Fixed Two Step Short Protocol versus Classic Short Protocol in ICSI
Conclusion: The new short fixed 2 dose short protocol regimen offers a benefit in all the ways in ICSI success and pregnancy rate with less time of gonadotropin stimulation and less cost.
Annexin V-binding and Assisted Reproduction Techniques
The objective is to describe the impact Annexin V-binding Technique has on couples diagnosed with male infertility and how to optimize sperm parameters so that this technique contributes to simplify the Assisted Reproductive treatment which will be indicated.

In Italy, in 2011, for the 1st time after the coming of the law n.40, the number of children born alive thanks to in vitro fertilization dropped. Decreasing from 12,506 in 2010 to 11,933. A phenomenon that has taken place despite the rising percentage of couples interested in the treatment.
Acupuncture To Improve In Vitro Fertilization: Mixed Results
Acupuncture to improve fertility rates? The University of Maryland Center for Integrative Medicine says that acupuncture, when used as a complementary or adjuvant therapy for in vitro fertilization, may be beneficial - depending on the baseline pregnancy rates of a fertility clinic. If the baseline success was not very high, it went up a little. For clinics with more success, acupuncture had no effect.
Spread the love: a new principle for procreation in the age of IVF
Procreative beneficence, they argue, must be supplemented with another concept, procreative altruism. “This new selection principle instructs parents to select children whose existence can be expected to contribute more to (or detract less from) the well-being of others than any alternative child.”
As IVF markets mature in Western nations, private companies are scrambling to expand into a growing Asian market. Declining population growth has prompted governments from South Korea to Singapore to offer generous IVF subsidies.
Delayed Puberty: First Estrogen Receptor Mutation Found in a Young Woman
A receptor mutation that essentially blocks estrogen's action has been identified for the first time in a female, researchers report. There are two confirmed estrogen receptors, and genetic testing subsequently determined she had a mutation in estrogen receptor-α:, which is essential to reproduction and bone health, researchers report in the New England Journal of Medicine. Estrogen levels in her blood were comparable to those of a mouse who
Not enough safeguards for surrogate mother, child, says study
The surrogate mothers and child are at the receiving end as the unregulated surrogacy industry booms in India without enough legal provisions to safeguard their interests which leads to exploitation of these women who are generally from poor background and violation of medical guidelines.
Indian surrogate mothers underpaid, unprotected in an unregulated industry
Indian surrogate mothers are frequently underpaid and insufficiently cared for, a report from an Indian charity claims. The Centre for Social Research (CSR) in New Delhi says there is little protection for surrogates in a growing industry without an adequate legal framework.
A study of mortality and fertility patterns among seven species of wild apes and monkeys and their relatives, compared with similar data from hunter-gatherer humans, shows that menopause sets humans apart from other primates. - Another possibility is that mammalian eggs simply have a limited shelf life. According to this idea, we've extended our lives to the point where we've outlived our egg supply.
