Microorganisms within Human Follicular Fluid: Effects on IVF
This study revealed microorganisms in FF itself and that the presence of particular microorganisms has an adverse affect on IVF outcomes as seen by an overall decrease in embryo transfer rates and pregnancy rates in both fertile and infertile women, and live birth rates in women with idiopathic infertility. FF microorganisms are a potential cause of adverse pregnancy outcomes in IVF in both infertile women and in fertile women with infertile male
Sperm Recovery and IVF after Testicular Sperm Extraction (TESE): Effect of Male Diagnosis and Use of Off-Site Surgical Centers on Sperm Recovery and I
Testicular sperm extraction is a safe and effective option regardless of the etiology of the azoospermia. The type of surgical center and/or its distance from the laboratory was not related to success. Men with non-obstructive azoospermia have a lower chance of successful sperm retrieval and fertilization.
Antioxidants were not found to be effective for increasing rates of live birth or clinical pregnancy. Based on these results, we would expect that out of 100 subfertile women not taking antioxidants, 23 would become pregnant, compared with between 22 and 36 per 100 who would become pregnant if taking antioxidants to improve their chances of becoming pregnant. Antioxidants did not appear to be associated with the adverse events of miscarriage or m
Expert reaction to fertility problems in women and cancer risk in their children
A study published in the International Journal of Cancer suggests that the children of women who experienced fertility problems may have an increased risk of cancer in childhood and young adulthood.
Increased risk for cancer among offspring of women with fertility problems
These findings suggest that offspring born to mothers with fertility problems are at increased risk for cancer in both childhood and young adulthood. If real, our findings of an ∼::18% overall increase in risk for cancer in childhood and an ∼::22% overall increase in risk for cancer in young adulthood would mean about four additional cases of childhood cancer and about nine additional cases of cancer in young adults per 100,000 exposed
Low hypo-osmotic swelling tests correlate with low percent motility and age of the male. [Pubmed only]
A significantly higher percentage of males with low motility have low (< 50%) HOS test scores irrespective of age. The odds ratio of males < 40 years having an abnormal HOS test score is 6.73 times higher and is 8.23 times higher for males > or = 40 years. As age increases, there is a significantly larger proportion of males with abnormal HOS test scores (6% to 13%).CONCLUSIONS: Factors that cause an abnormality in the functional integrity of the
Isolating sperm by selecting those with normal nuclear morphology prior to intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) does not provide better pregnancy r
Overall the live delivered pregnancy rates were similar in the high vs normal magnification groups (33.3% vs 36.3%). cONCLUSIONS: Isolation of sperm with normal nuclei with high magnification does not offer any advantage over conventional IVF for refractory cases where the male partner has a high DNA fragmentation index. Hatching of in vitro fertilized human embryos is influenced by fertilization method
A total of 430 IVF fertilized embryos from 62 patients and 594 ICSI-fertilized embryos from 99 patients were included. We observed spontanous hatching in 165 IVF embryos and 215 ICSI embryos. Two distinct mechanisms of hatching were observed. Type 1 was characterized by penetration of the zona pellucida (ZP) by small trophectoderm projections, whereas type 2 was preceded by a regular rupture of the ZP followed by extrusion of the blastocyst. Type
Does culture medium influence offspring birth weight?
Result(s) In the prospective study, the average z score was −::0.19 ± 0.85 in Cook and 0.08 ± 1.40 in Vitrolife. In the retrospective study, the z scores obtained in each group were as follows: Cook, −::0.14 ± 0.96: MediCult, 0.06 ± 1.13: and Vitrolife, 0.03 ± 1.05. No significant differences were observed regarding the birth weight of children born in the different groups in both studies.
Outcome of intracytoplasmic sperm injection cycles with fresh testicular spermatozoa obtained on the day of or the day before oocyte collection and wi
Neither the timing of TESE (on the day of or the day before oocyte retrieval) nor the use of frozen-thawed testicular sperm affects the outcome of ICSI-ET cycle when motile spermatozoa are obtained in azoospermic men. In addition, etiology of azoospermia does not have any influence on the outcome with different timing of microdissection TESE procedure for ICSI.
REVIEW R2013.02 CANCER-Incidence Of Childhood Cancers To Couples With Infertility.

Frozen Sperm Taken Directly from Testicles Option for IVF Couples
Researchers determined that the type of facility where sperm is taken and its distance from the IVF laboratory has no bearing on pregnancy outcomes. This is incredibly beneficial as previously stated for couples hoping to potentially conceive through in vitro fertilization (IVF) and may benefit men with no sperm in their semen due various things, including genetics, cancer or testicular failure.
In the absence of clear regulation, the practice of surrogacy in Kenya is growing as an unsupervised industry with no law to fall back on if anything goes wrong during the treatment
Women who take antioxidants to help them conceive could be receiving no benefits from the supplements, research has shown.~Data from 3,548 women who attended fertility clinics found no evidence that supplements can actually increase conception or birth rates.
Sperm donor named legal parent and ordered to pay £300,000

Higher risk of childhood cancer for those born from women with fertility problems
hildren born from mothers with fertility problems are at a higher risk of developing cancers during childhood and young adulthood, according to a large Danish study. The study authors reported findings of an 18 percent overall increase in risk for cancer in childhood and a 22 percent overall increase in risk for cancer in young adulthood.
Do Antioxidants Improve a Woman's Chances of Conceiving?
There is no high quality evidence that antioxidant supplements help to increase a woman's chances of having a baby, according to the results of a new systematic review. The review, published in The Cochrane Library, found women were no more likely to conceive when taking oral antioxidants and that there was limited information about potential harms.
Glassner says while the technology is capable of identifying traits such as hair color, eye color and height, that’s not where doctors are focusing their energy. “Advances in medicine move ahead of the ethical controversies that may be the storm that follows,” he said. “These are obviously uncharted waters. The concept of a designer child is not what most doctors are interested in being part of.”
Professor Kehoe, of the University of Birmingham, who has pioneered several studies to improve low survival rates in ovarian cancer, pointed to “a groundswell of evidence” suggesting the disease often starts in the fallopian tubes of women carrying the genes and not the ovaries, as previously thought.
Working at a clean and prim desk may promote healthy eating, generosity, and conventionality, according to new research.
