This chemotherapy-induced apoptotic death was reduced both in the Cy+S1P (32.7 ± 4.4%, P < 0.01) and the Doxo+S1P group (27.1 ± 7.6%, P < 0.01) compared with Cy and Doxo groups, respectively.

Kirkegaard et al.'s (2013) prospective study provides additional evidence that timing of early cleavage events can predict blastocyst development, first established using cryopreserved, donated embryos (Wong et al., 2010) and recently validated in a large-scale multi-center prospective study with 1233 embryos from 160 patients (Conaghan et al., 2013).

Influence of cell loss after vitrification or slow-freezing on further in vitro development and implantation of human Day 3 embryos
Although it is not proved that vitrified embryos are more viable than slowly frozen embryos in terms of pregnancy outcome, vitrification yields higher survival rates, better overnight development and higher transfer rates per embryo warmed. This increases the number of frozen transfer cycles originating from a single treatment and might result in a better cumulative clinical outcome.

We found that the storage of vitrified blastocysts in aseptic conditions neither impaired blastocyst viability (SR after warming during the first year of storage was 83.0% compared with 83.1% after 5–6 years of storage: NS) nor decreased pregnancy rates (clinical pregnancy rate after 1 year of storage was 40.0 versus 38.5% after 6 years: NS).
