Slightly lower incidence of ectopic pregnancies in frozen embryo transfer cycles versus fresh in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer cycles: a retrosp
Conclusion(s): No significant difference could be demonstrated on the incidence of EP in fresh IVF cycles vs. frozen/thawed cycles in a large cohort of patients
Semen quality and time to pregnancy: the Longitudinal Investigation of Fertility and the Environment Study
In adjusted models, semen quality parameters were associated with significantly shorter TTP as measured by FORs >1: percent motility, strict and traditional morphology, sperm head width, elongation factor, and acrosome area. Significantly longer TTPs or FORs <1 were observed for morphologic categories amorphous and round sperm heads and neck/midpiece abnormalities.
Effects of dehydroepiandrosterone on in vivo ovine follicular development
Our data supports the idea that DHEA might be a useful therapy to delay the effects of ovarian ageing. Therefore, it may have a role as an adjunct during IVF to improve ovarian response in women with DOR and as a treatment for premature ovarian insufficiency.
Interventions to improve reproductive outcomes in women with elevated natural killer cells undergoing assisted reproduction techniques: a systematic r
This review identified some data showing that adjuvant therapies (mainly IVIg) in this selected population seem to confer some benefit on ART outcome. However, overall, the review does not support the use of prednisolone, IVIg or any other adjuvant treatment in women undergoing ART who are found to have elevated absolute numbers or activity of NK cells, purely due to the paucity of, or poor quality of, the evidence.
Birthweight and placental weight: do changes in culture media used for IVF matter? Comparisons with spontaneous pregnancies in the corresponding time
We found a significant effect of culture media used for IVF on birthweight and on placental weight in relation to birthweight. Also the population changes over time should encourage identification of factors in very early embryonic life that may influence birthweight and placental weight.
Differences in cumulus cells gene expression between modified natural and stimulated in vitro fertilization cycles
Conclusion: The increased expression of genes involved in the oxidation-reduction process probably points to hypoxic conditions in modified natural IVF cycles. This finding opens up new perspectives for the establishment of the potential role that oxidation-reduction processes have in determining success rates of modified natural IVF.
HFEA loses legal battle on enforcement of multiple birth quotas
The UK's High Court has ruled against the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority saying its actions towards two clinics over a licence condition to impose a maximum multiple birth rate were unlawful. The HFEA has now decided to withdraw the condition from all UK fertility clinics' licences.
A national strategy aimed at reducing the multiple birth rate in the UK came into force in 2009. In 2011, as part of an effort to reinforce the polic
A lesbian couple who claim they were turned down for fertility treatment because of their sexuality are taking legal action against the NHS.
The women say they were told separately by a nurse and a doctor at St Mary's Hospital in Manchester that they were not entitled to IVF because they were in a same-sex relationship.
Limits lifted on number of twins and triplets born through IVF
Limits on the number of twins and triplets that can be born as a result of IVF treatment have been lifted, following warnings from fertility experts that they harmed some women’s chances of becoming pregnant. The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) announced that IVF clinics will no longer have to ensure as a condition of their licence that multiple births account for only 10 per cent of their successful cases.
India IVF Treatment Market 2018 Outlook in New Research Report at MaretReportsOnline.com
India has a large population of 1.22 Billion people and infertility in the country is rising at a rapid rate (about 30 Million couples suffer from infertility). Infertility or the inability to have children refers to a range of disorders some of which affect the male, and some the female, and contribute to childlessness in a couple. There is also something called unexplained infertility, where doctors are unable to provide a medical explanation f
It’s more expensive, unnecessary and unhealthier: so why do IVF clinics prefer ICSI?
Despite complaints from experts, more and more IVF clinics are using intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). Lisa Jardine, the outgoing head of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA), complained earlier this month that some clinics are using ICSI only because it is easier rather than because it is in the best interests of patients.
I wasted £30,000 trying to have a baby I didn't want
Single and in her 40s, Claudia Connell decided to have a baby – it was now or never. But during her third IVF attempt, she began to regret the whole idea
A Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center-led study has found that two organochlorine pesticides are associated with an increased risk of endometriosis, a condition that affects up to 10 percent of reproductive-age women.Specifically, researchers observed that women with higher exposures to two such pesticides, beta-hexachlorocyclohexane and mirex, had a 30- to 70-percent increase in endometriosis risk.
Nanoparticles to Probe Mystery Sperm Defects Linked to Infertility
A way of using nanoparticles to investigate the mechanisms underlying 'mystery' cases of infertility has been developed by scientists at Oxford University. The technique, published in Nanomedicine: Nanotechnology, Biology and Medicine, could eventually help researchers to discover the causes behind cases of unexplained infertility and develop treatments for affected couples. The method involves loading porous silica nanoparticle 'envelopes' with c
SPERM will be imported from the United States from next year because of an increase in women wanting IVF and a shortage of donors in Tasmania. TasIVF director Dr Bill Watkins said 2013 had been the clinic's busiest year since opening in 1983 as one of Australia's first fertility units. He said supply could not keep up with demand and the wait for donor sperm had stretched to about two years. Dr Watkins said stocks of donations had had their bigge
Everyone on the sharemarket understands that an initial public offering (IPO) can be a private equity investor’s exit, but you can’t blame the Australian market for being a trifle wary of such situations: names such as Myer, Emeco Holdings and Boart Longyear have left a sour taste in the mouths of the investors who took the stock off the private equity investors’ hands. That is why the June float of in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) services provider
Fertility Treatment Outcomes Influenced by Mother's Ethnicity
Maternal ethnicity is a significant determinant of successful outcomes after fertility treatment, suggests a new study published in BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The data, gathered between 2006 and 2011, were then analysed for live birth outcomes (defined as a viable infant born after 24 weeks of gestation) and showed that when compared to White European women, the live birth rates of ethnic women were significantl
