IVFD Differential Diagnosis of Azoospermia with Proteomic Biomarkers ECM1 and TEX101 Quantified in Seminal Plasma
As a result, we propose a simple two-biomarker decision tree for the differential diagnosis of OA and NOA and, in addition, for the differentiation of NOA subtypes. Clinical assays for ECM1 and TEX101 have the potential to replace most of the diagnostic testicular biopsies and facilitate the prediction of outcome of sperm retrieval procedures, thus increasing the reliability and success of assisted reproduction techniques.

IVFD Cyclophosphamide Triggers Follicle Activation and “Burnout”: AS101 Prevents Follicle Loss and Preserves Fertility
These findings suggest that the mechanism in Cy-induced loss of ovarian reserve is accelerated primordial follicle activation, which results in a “burnout” effect and follicle depletion. By preventing this activation, AS101 shows potential as an ovarian-protective agent, which may be able to preserve fertility in female cancer patients.

IVFD Two Y Genes Can Replace the Entire Y Chromosome for Assisted Reproduction in the Mouse
Sry is believed to function primarily in sex determination during fetal life. Eif2s3y may be the only Y chromosome gene required to drive mouse spermatogenesis, allowing formation of haploid germ cells that are functional in assisted reproduction. Our findings are relevant, but not directly translatable, to human male infertility cases.

IVFD Economics of assisted reproductive technology: data from an international analysis
Regarding the economic aspects of ART, the issue that remains to be faced and finally analyzed is the huge difference in the cost to patients for ART treatments across the world (i.e., between the United States and other developed countries) (3). Could the variations in cost of living alone justify the differences? Do clinics in some countries (i.e., the United States) offer different and higher technologies? What other factors might be involved?

IVFD Dopamine in human follicular fluid is associated with cellular uptake and metabolism-dependent generation of reactive oxygen species in granulosa cell
The results identify DA as a factor in the human ovary, which, via ROS generation, could play a role in ovarian physiology and pathology. The results obtained in samples from women with PCOS suggest the involvement of DA, acting via ROS, in this condition.

IVFD The expression and role of oxidative stress markers in the serum and follicular fluid of patients with endometriosis.
The ROS levels in both serum and follicular fluid of the study group were significantly higher than in the control group. The serum levels of SOD and VE in the study group were significantly lower than those in the control group, but there was no difference in follicular fluid levels of SOD and VE between the two groups. Furthermore, the mature oocyte and fertilization rates in the study group were significantly lower than those of the control gr

IVFD Single curettage endometrial biopsy injury in the proliferative phase improves reproductive outcome of subsequent in vitro fertilization-embryo transf
The clinical pregnancy rate (37.5% vs 12.2%), embryo implantation rate (23.6% vs 6.3%), and ongoing pregnancy rate (25.0% vs 8.2%) were significantly higher in the EBI group than in the non-EBI group. No serious complaints and complications were noted. CONCLUSION: Single curettage EBI in the proliferative phase of the preceding cycle significantly improved IVF-ET outcome in infertile patients with repeated EIF

IVFD Association between sequence variations in genes encoding human zona pellucida glycoproteins and fertilization failure in IVF
Our study on ZP genes of infertile women revealed a high degree of sequence variations. This may reflect gradual reduction of fertility among TFFs, but the putative roles and influences of single variations can only be hypothesized. [Note: given previous discussion in Embryomail on failed fertilisation, thsi 2005 paper supports a genetic co-factor suggesting ICSI is the preferred next treatment ed.]

The CDR within six cycles was 60 and 65.3% for study group and control group, respectively, for all ages, and 65.8 and 70.4%, respectively, in the subgroup younger than 36 years. In women ≥:36 years, CDR within six cycles was comparable in both groups (36–39 years, 43% in study versus 44.4% in control group, P = 0.730: 40–42 years, 21% in study versus 23% in control group, P = 0.786).

IVFD Delivery Rates Unaffected by Transferring Fewer Embryos, Reimbursing Six Cycles of Fertility Treatment
Research from Belgium has shown that if governments legislate to restrict the numbers of embryos transferred during fertility treatment, but combine it with a policy of reimbursing six cycles of assisted reproduction technology (ART), there is no detrimental impact on pregnancy and delivery rates. However, there is a greatly reduced risk of multiple births, which have associated health risks for mother and babies and are an increased cost to the

IVFD IVF: sex selection in Australia - should it be legal?
Sex selection is illegal in Australia, except under particular medical circumstances, so some Australians are heading overseas. It is argued that allowing the use of this technology for gender selection may be the first step down a 'slippery slope' toward 'designer babies': if sex selection was made legal, could parents then rightly be able to select for all kinds of traits in their children, such as hair colour, eye colour, or intelligence?

IVFD IVF: a test tube revolution
IVF technology is a widely accepted part of the story of reproduction in Australia - but where did it all begin? Dr John Leeton is a pioneer in this technology being described by colleagues as the “linchpin” of the IVF programme led by Monash University in Melbourne, Victoria. This program included the world’s first IVF pregnancy, many of the world’s earliest IVF babies, the world’s first donor egg baby and Australia’s first IVF surrogate pregnan

IVFD Sperm test for infertile men could reduce surgery
Scientists have developed a non-invasive test that can predict whether men with zero sperm counts are capable of fathering children through IVF. Current methods rely on surgery to find out if a man has viable sperm that can be retrieved for fertility treatment.

IVFD Multiple births to older mothers soars
Multiple births among mothers over 45 years old have increased by 16 per cent in the last year, partly fuelled by the use of IVF treatment by older women. The rise comes despite official attempts to encourage clinics to reduce the number of embryos they use, to cut the numbers of multiple births, which come with higher health risks for both babies and mothers.

IVFD Two Y Genes Can Replace the Entire Y Chromosome for Assisted Reproduction in Mice
The Y chromosome is a symbol of maleness, present only in males and encoding genes important for male reproduction. But live mouse offspring can be generated with assisted reproduction using germ cells from males with the Y chromosome contribution limited to only two genes: the testis determinant factor Sry and the spermatogonial proliferation factor Eif2s3y.

IVFD Y chromosome: Why men contribute so little
Scientists have practically obliterated the ultimate symbol of maleness in DNA, the Y chromosome, and believe they may be able to do away with it completely. They condensed all the genetic information normally found on a mouse's Y chromosome to just two genes. Their study, in the journal Science, showed the male mice could still father babies, albeit needing advanced IVF.
