Alikani grade IV is typified by larger fragments accounting for about 30% of the cell volume. The fragments are distributed throughout the embryo and are of varying sizes. Blastomere size is uneven when the fragments are removed and this type benefits most from fragment removal in terms of compaction and blastulation. Alikani data suggests that fragmentaiton at this level significantly impedes embryo development in vitro.
