The calculation used for an embryo score for QC purposes is based upon the Embryo Score Paramater (ESP - Cooke, et al, 2003). The score which is numerically derieved allows estimates of variability around a mean score. However, the object being assessed [the embryo] is not a measureable commodity. The score translates your observations by applying a numerical value to non numeric choices. The ESP is based upon the number of cells x the embryo quality. The embryo quality is based upon the degree of fragmentation and the relative size of each blastomere. QAP-online has modified this score to accommodate estimates of rates of cleavage and elements of compaction. These modifcations use included to allow for day 2 and day 3 embryos to be assessed within the same scheme. Pronuclear assessments have been removed to their own QA scheme.
