IVFD Hijacked sperm carry chemo drugs to cervical cancer cells
There’s a new use for sperm – delivering cancer drugs. Standard chemotherapy is toxic to both cancer cells and normal cells, leading to symptoms like nausea, and limiting the dose a person can receive. But if chemotherapy drugs specifically targeted tumours, we could avoid this.

Slight epigenetic changes in sperm may have a cumulative effect on fertility and embryonic developmental competence. IVFD Effect of the male factor on the clinical outcome of intracytoplasmic sperm injection combined with preimplantation aneuploidy testing: observational
Conclusion(s):Severe male factor impairs early embryonic competence in terms of fertilization rate and developmental potential. However, the euploidy rate and implantation potential of the obtained blastocysts are independent from sperm quality.Embryo transfers also resulted in similar live birth and miscarriage rates. No impact of sperm factor on obstetrical/perinatal outcomes was observed.

IVFD Comparison of embryo morphokinetics following intracytoplasmic sperm injection in smoker and non-smoker couples: Are the results different?
The number of oocytes, fertilised oocytes, transferred embryos and metaphase II oocytes was significantly less in the smoker group (p<0.05). The rate of pregnancy and ongoing pregnancy was also lower in the smoker group (p<0.05). A difference was observed in time of pronuclei appearance, t8, t9+ cleavage times in time-lapse in the smoker and non-smoker groups (p<0.05). A prolongation was observed in time to pronuclear fading and t2 cleavage times

IVFD Impact of 3.5% O2 culture on embryo development and clinical outcomes: a comparative study
Conclusion(s). Culturing human embryos, continuously from day 0 to 5 or 6, in 3.5% O2 concentration is associated with significantly lower blastocyst formation rate and clinical outcomes parameters, but rather with significantly higher rates of fertilization and cleavage. Whether these findings hold true for other patient populations and culture media brands remain unknown.

IVFD Shared motherhood IVF: high delivery rates in a large study of treatments for lesbian couples using partner-donated eggs
A total of 172 fresh and vitrified-warmed embryo transfers were carried out: 70% at the blastocyst-stage and 58% involved a single embryo. Cumulative live birth rate per receiver was 60% (72/120), and twin delivery rate was 14% (10/72). Perinatal outcome parameters were better for singleton than twin pregnancies, although the latter also achieved generally favourable outcomes. No significant difference in cumulative outcomes were found between sy

IVFD Maternal age at birth and daughters’ subsequent childlessness
Compared with women born to 20–24-year-old mothers, those born to mothers aged 25–29, 30–34 and ≥:35 years were more likely to be childless [RR (95% CI): 1.21 (1.14–1.29), 1.30 (1.22–1.39) and 1.40 (1.31–1.50), respectively]. The association was consistent in strata defined by birth cohort, number of siblings, birth order, and participant’s educational level, as well as within sister pairs. Overall, we found weak evidence for an independent

IVFD Two couples sue fertility clinic for providing eggs with genetic abnormalities
The New York fertility clinic Reproductive Medicine Associates is facing two lawsuits from couples whose children, conceived using donor eggs from the centre, have Fragile X syndrome. This genetic condition can lead to intellectual and developmental difficulties. The parents of the two affected children claim that the clinic and their doctor, Dr Alan Copperman, failed to test the women who donated the eggs to see if they were carriers for Fragile

Title
Are children of Older Mothers more likely to remain childless?
Summary
In a large epidemiological study, females born to older women are more likely to not to have children themselves.
Comment
At first glance reading this abstract I assumed the reason maybe due to older women would also have older partners and older males may be the reason for if you like secondary infertility. However, the data suggests this is not the primary reason. The authors cite other human and animal studies suggesting older mothers (or eggs from older women) have reduced fertility (biological or other reasons).// Even though this is an epidemiology study using a cancer patient database, the study limited itself to cancer free clients with siblings who had cancer and who were more than 44 years old. Self reporting of maternal age at their birth and the number of children was the basis of the dataset that had more than 43,000 clients.// The increased childlessness of women born to older mothers was apparent over most social parameters. There was a weak link to partners paternal age. The implication are clear from this association that women who were conceived later in their mothers reproductive age are less likely to have a live birth. While there are many social reasons for this, this is not an isolated observation - there being some references cited by the authors for similar observation elsewhere and one cannot rule out a biological basis as well. Whether the primary reason is social or biological (ova from older women had different fecundity to these of younger women) is unclear but clinics treating older women may well be wise to indicate this observation to their clients so at least they are aware of the findings. Maybe in the future, research on oocyte quality may throw further light on the viability of oocytes to produce fertile offspring. This is not an IVF specific thing since the study looked at women who presumably have conceived naturally but if IVF could improve oocyte selection them maybe it may be a good thing./

Title
Does Prenatal exposure to maternal stress effect a womans fertility?
Summary
A recent article by Plana-Ripoll et.al. using Danish cohort data suggests the likelihood of infertility is higher in women who mother was exposed to severe first trimester stress.
Comment
In this open access article, the authors have studied the likelihood of women appearing on infertility (IVF) registers may be influenced by whether their mother suffered severe emotional stress prior to or during the first trimester of pregnancy. There was an argument that elevation of stress hormone cortisol may impact of the growing fetus resulting in some increased degree of masculinization of female reproductive development or behavior. It was suggested this may be via an increase in fetal cortisol and thereby testosterone. Some animal studies was cited to support this argument.// The source of maternal stress was deemed to be the loss of a partner, child or relation that could be verified in the Dannish registers. This impressive studied looked at confounding effects of the presence of a partner and of siblings not exposed to stress and observed the same incidence. In this study, 2% were considered to be exposed to prenatal stress but this still represented more than 13,000 women.// The point of the study was that if during early pregnancy, a significant stress event occurs, then increased support services to mitigate the impact of the bereavement may have positive effects on the daughters of these women. Furthermore, if during the initial workup for couples having fertility treatment, such prenatal stress was recognized then diagnosis and treatment may be modified. It may not necessarily be good that the reason for a couples unexplained infertility maybe due to their mothers troubles but a comment may go some way to help couples understand why they may be having trouble conceiving.//
