IVFD Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in human follicular fluid and in vitro fertilization outcomes, a pilot study
Heavier PCBs were associated with poorer ovarian reserve and follicular response. Lighter PCBs were associated with oocyte quality, embryo quality, and live birth. Even at low concentrations, PCBs, DDT, and DDE may impact in vitro fertilization.

IVFD Type of underwear worn and markers of testicular function among men attending a fertility center
Certain styles of male underwear may impair spermatogenesis and this may result in a compensatory increase in gonadotrophin secretion, as reflected by higher serum FSH levels among men who reported most frequently wearing tight underwear. Confirmation of these findings, and in particular the findings on FSH levels suggesting a compensatory mechanism, is warranted.

IVFD Serum human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) among obese and non-obese women following single embryo transfers
Conclusions: Obese patients achieving live births had statistically significantly lower initial serum hCG values than non-obese patients. However, mean 2-day percent rises in hCG were similar across BMI categories. Initial hCG values may lack sensitivity for live birth in obese patients: rate of hCG rise remains the mainstay of monitoring very early pregnancies following IVF. Future studies should investigate whether serum analyte ranges should b

IVFD A Case Series on Platelet-Rich Plasma Revolutionary Management of Poor Responder Patients
All patients were treated with autologous PRP ovarian infusion following written consent. Within a 3-month interval, follicle-stimulating hormone decreased by 67.33%, while Anti-Müllerian hormone increased by 75.18%. These impressive results on the biochemical infertility markers alone are classified as a complete biological paradox, coupled by improved embryo quality. Results report a natural conception at 24 weeks, an uncomplicated healthy preg

IVFD Considerations Regarding Embryo Culture Conditions: From Media to Epigenetics
There are numerous reports on embryo culture media and conditions in the laboratory, as the subject is multifaceted and complex, reflecting the variation in practice. In this scoping review, we attempt to approach the topic of culture media and conditions from the practitioners' perspective aiming to highlight, in a comprehensive fashion, important aspects regarding the options available, introduce points of debate and controversy, while maintain

Does the type of underwear effect your sperm count?

In this recent publication from the Department of Environmental Health, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Boston, MA, USA, the authors reviews the type of underwear males attending for fertility treatment used and compared each type (grouped into either loose or tight fitting) to their semen and endocrine profile. all the men in this study were within the normal range for semen using IVF for non male factor reasons.| They reported that males wearing tight fitting underwear had a lower semen concentration (and by default, total sperm count) and higher FSH concentrations. Other semen parameters including motility and morphology and all other endocrine parameters tested were not significantly different. The incidence of higher BMI and possibly varicocele (P=0.06) was also observed in the men using tighter underwear.|The authors argued that an increase in scrotal temperature may be the simple explanation but the elevated FSH does suggest some level of testicular trauma. They cites other work that reinforced this observation where change in underwear resulted in a change in concentration.|Not withstanding their observations, at a clinical level, the sperm concentration fell from 65x10(6) to 51.9x 10(6)/ml - 20% fall - and all well within the normal range. The observation that morphology and motility were unaffected suggest the chance of pregnancy may not be implicated. |The next study will undoubtedly look at men using ICSI and see how many men (and their partners) need to use ICSI instead of IVF because their sperm count fell below the lower limit of the normal range. Andrology laboratories may like to include this question into their presample questionnaire just to be on the safe side since the clinician may like to use this information as an opportunity to recommend the male might light to wear looser fitting attire! - just to be on the safe side. There is a danger that once a couple are committed to ICSI rather than IVF, it is unlikely they would revert to IVF for future treatment.
