IVFD Rapid sperm capture: high-throughput flagellar waveform analysis
WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS: Combining tracked flagella with mathematical modelling has the potential to reveal new mechanistic insight. By providing the capability as a free-to-use software package, we hope that this ability to accurately quantify the flagellar waveform in large populations of motile cells will enable an abundant array of diagnostic, toxicological and therapeutic possibilities, as well as creating new opportunities for as

IVFD Limitations of semen analysis as a test of male fertility and anticipated needs from newer tests
Routine semen analysis does not measure the fertilizing potential of spermatozoa and the complex changes that occur in the female reproductive tract before fertilization. Whether assisted reproduction technology (ART) is required depends not only on male factors but female fecundity. Newer tests should predict the success of fertilization in vitro and the outcome of the progeny.

IVFD Computer-assisted sperm analysis and reproductive science: a gift for understanding gamete biology from multidisciplinary perspectives
Given the availability of appropriate technologies, it was relatively easy for computer systems to measure the characteristics of sperm tracks, but routine clinical and agricultural laboratories were generally more interested in obtaining accurate assessments of sperm concentration. They were also hoping to distinguish those individual semen samples that might be regarded as subfertile or infertile.

IVFD The Combined Impact of Maternal Age and Body Mass Index on Cumulative Live Birth Following In Vitro Fertilization
Conclusions: Age-related decline in fertility has a greater impact than BMI on the cumulative live birth rate at older ages, suggesting that taking time to achieve lower BMI prior to IVF may be detrimental for older women with overweight or obesity. Delaying conception to lose weight prior to IVF should be informed by the combination of age and BMI.

IVFD CRISPR baby mutation significantly increases mortality
Six months ago, a Chinese scientist announced that he had edited the genomes of two babies born last year. The germline edits with CRISPR-Cas9 supposedly changed the CCR5 gene to prevent HIV from invading immune cells. An analysis of records in the U.K. Biobank shows that having two copies of this mutation is associated with a 21 percent increase in mortality.

IVFD Is younger better? Donor age less than 25 does not predict more favorable outcomes after in vitro fertilization
Conclusions: Donor age < :25 was not associated with better outcomes after IVF. Under the age of 30, the prioritization of <25 year old donors may not be recommended given the lack of evidence for superior pregnancy or live birth outcomes.

IVFD The window is wide: flexible timing for vitrified–warmed embryo transfer in natural cycles
Conclusions: The results suggest that the timing of blastocyst transfer in a natural cycle after LH surge is flexible within 24 h. Outcomes are equally good with day of embryo transfer 6 or 7 days after LH surge date. Oestradiol dynamics and progesterone concentration 6 days prior to NC-VET did not have a significant impact on OPR.

IVFD CCR5-∆:32 is deleterious in the homozygous state in humans
We use the genotyping and death register information of 409,693 individuals of British ancestry to investigate fitness effects of the CCR5-∆:32 mutation. We estimate a 21% increase in the all-cause mortality rate in individuals who are homozygous for the ∆:32 allele. A deleterious effect of the ∆:32/∆:32 mutation is also independently supported by a significant deviation from the Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium (HWE) due to a defic

IVFD From Vitro to Vivo and Back: Forty Five Years of IVF
This week marks the 45th anniversary of the report of the first human pregnancy achieved through in vitro fertilisation (IVF). The milestone was accomplished by the teams of Carl Wood and John Leeton at Monash University, in Melbourne, Australia, and published in The Lancet on the 29th September, 1973 [1]. On this occasion, we celebrate the outstanding clinical accomplishments of IVF and reflect on the moral debates surrounding infertility, the e
