The Andrology Laboratory should contain adequate work space for the receipt of specimens, the holding of specimens (shaker or mixer, preferably at 37C), a microscope and hand counter, a separate bench for at least on calibrated centrifuge (so as not to cause vibrations when using the microscope), a clean writing area or computer space and an area for disposal of waste and sharp material. If samples are prepared for clinical use such as IUI or IVF, a laminar flow work space should be considered preferably in a isolated or separate room. There must be sink within easy reach with safety eye wash, suitable antiseptic hand wash cleaner and emergency bleach for spills. There needs to be a suitable work bench space of at least 2 meters for antisperm antibody assessment and for staining for sperm morphology. Given the volatile nature of some staining solutions, this should be either in a fume hood or a well ventilated room with suitable exhaust.
