The ethos behind this training manual and logbook is our belief that to become a good embryologist, you must understand the principles behind what we are trying to achieve in the ART laboratory. Obviously embryologists have to be trained in the unique standard operating procedures (SOPs) that belong to each individual laboratory. Australians’ understanding of the decline in fertility with increasing age and attitudes towards ovarian reserve screening
Despite increased education, Australians continue to have a poor understanding of age-related decline in natural and IVF-assisted conception, potentially explaining why many delay starting a family. Ovarian reserve screening may help identify individuals at increased risk of premature diminished fertility, giving these women the ability to bring forward their plans for natural conception or undertake fertility preservation (oocyte freezing).
Urinary versus recombinant gonadotropins for ovarian stimulation in women undergoing treatment with assisted reproductive technology
Published results of Cochrane reviews and meta-analysis show no difference in efficacy or safety between urinary and recombinant gonadotropins. In the absence of any significant difference, cost plays an important role in deciding choice of gonadotropins. In this article, we have reviewed the results of comparative clinical trials, Cochrane analysis, and meta-analysis to derive consensus statements regarding efficacy, safety, and cost implicatio
Available data suggest that there are very clear patterns of aging in the sperm epigenome that can be directly detected in DNA methylation patterns. Importantly, these alterations are so consistent that a predictive model has been successfully generated to predict an individual’s age based only on sperm DNA methylation signatures. Because this metric is the most direct way to detect aging in sperm, it is logical that these signatures may offer
School performance in singletons born after assisted reproductive technology
The findings are generally reassuring and indicate, in the crude analysis, that school performances of ART children compared to children born after SC are better. After adjustment small differences were observed in total scores in favour of SC children. There were no significant differences, when analysing boys and girls together in specific subjects, in secondary school qualification or poor school performance.
