IVFD No effect of IVF culture medium on cognitive development of 9-year-old children
WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS: Our study analyzes the effects of culture medium on school performance of children born after IVF/ICSI in a prospective cohort study. Although further research on long-term academic skills and also on behavior is essential, our results are reassuring and should make parents of children born after IVF/ICSI feel comfortable with their children’s cognitive development.

IVFD Associations of blastocyst features, trophectoderm biopsy and other laboratory practice with post-warming behavior and implantation
SUMMARY ANSWER: Blastocyst morphology, day of full development and artificial shrinkage (either laser-assisted or biopsy-induced) are the pre-vitrification parameters/practices most strongly associated with post-warming behavior and implantation potential while there was no association with trophectoderm biopsy.

IVFD Decrease in semen quality and Leydig cell function in infertile men: a longitudinal study
SUMMARY ANSWER. Infertile men with severely reduced semen quality risk further deterioration of semen quality 15 years after treatment for infertility, and a lower baseline sperm concentration was associated with a more pronounced increase in LH and decrease in testosterone/LH ratio at follow-up.

Title
Does Semen quality from men with spermatogenic failure continue to decrease?
Summary
Spermatogenic failure is associated with severe oligospermia of azoospermia and over time (15 years), the semen quality of such men continued to decrease warranting consideration for cryopreservation.
Comment
In this study from Denmark, men with severe oligospermia (with spermatogenic failure of SgF) were reassessed 15 years after their initial investigations. The teams observations basically showed that a decrease in Leydig cell function as marked by rising LH concentrations was associated with falling sperm concentrations and increased azoospermia. In all 10% of 157 men became azoospemic over this time period.|The recommendations from the authors was that is would be prudent to cryostore semen samples from such men at the initial investigation just in case over future treatment cycles, they became azoospermic and required testicular biopsy.|While some men exhibited an increase in sperm concentration (SC) over, this was only evident when the initial SC was relatively high. In cases with very low SC at the start of the study, almost all decreased significantly over the 15 year interval. A steady testosterone and rising LH is an indication of decreasing leydig cell function. A rising FSH and falling inhibin-B are classic ally associated with falling sperm counts. This study was unable to directly correlate the poorer leydig activity but the associations strongly suggested a distorted function of the seminiferous epithelium.|
